Hel was better self sustain before season 4 for tbph. Now with light 1 needing an ally for the self heal to work. She is a lot stronger as a group healer/burst healer.

For working in Basic Attacks go for a build that makes using them worth the effort for her. Like to start go for a CDR build to begin with like Sands of Time, Shoes of Focus, and a Shield of Regrowth. That will get you all the burst you need. And then go for a final layout that has Polynomicon in it.

I go for a final build of full CDR and all the Magical Power plus MP5 I can manage can stuff in it. Which looks something like this: Shoes of Focus>Shield of Regrowth>Book of Thoth>Polynomicon>sell Sands of Time replace with Spear of Desolation>Rod of Tahuti

It is a bit of a glass cannon build but it will delete enemies like no one's business. You could sub out the Spear and Rod for more defensive items if you wanted but this build does give you a ton of sustain too.
