Volvo Thread

I have a 89 244 DL and was wondering how compatible a 93 740 turbo wagon would be? Its the stock turbo set up and has a LSD in the rear. Was thinking of buying it and throwing as much as i can from the 740 to the 240. Should work right?

Im assuming auto for both?

You have different versions of the Bosch jetronic ignition, same tranny, same block but distributor and other things will be in different places. Ecus and everything won't swap because of the ignition.

Don't know for sure about the rear axle.

Yes both are auto but the 240 has 140k original and was 200 bucks. The 740 is 300, bc the owner smashed the drivers side door into a pole.

Whats fucky with the 740? Just drive that.

Oh. Find another 240.

Get it on the road first. Your dreaming too big too quick.

The kid who owned it beat the shit out of ir. The bodys trashed, has rust all in the back end. Interior is ripped apart and smoked damage. Really id like to rip the engine and trans, rebuild both. The wheels are the Hydras which are surprisingly in great shape, no curb bite.

>find another 240

why? Its in pretty great shape, turns over everytime

The 740 would be of no use to you in my opinion.

As a parts car I meant, sorry. Drive the shit out of it, they like abuse.

Of no use unless you wanted to swap literally everything under the hoods one for another. Which would be doable, but again, just buy new suspension bits from ipd and get it on the road.

Any idea if the rear would fit?

...

I'm guessing it would bit I'm pretty much the only one replying atm.

I had a 760 turbo without the LSD.

DD a 240 now.

Honestly, put time and money into stage 0. One step at a time. Get your steering tight, intake cleaned out, trsnny kickdown cable adjusted right and tpms fresh fluids and a free flowing exhaust. Makes a huge difference.

Git in here swedes

Are V70Rs gud? I have a feeling I might try to sell my Jeep this year, and a V70R is something I might be interested in buying. Either generation is fine.

At this point I've become so attached to it I really just can't see myself ever getting rid of it
Got a set of Dracos on some pretty worn out tires sitting in my garage I bought on impulse but I'd really like to put Hydras on it at some point

worth?

Besides those ugly ass wheels, it looks pretty clean and at least worth checking out.

I want to find a 240 diesel with a 5 speed but it's impossible in the US

>buying a 90s volvo as a first car

All 5 of my cars have been 90s volvos.

Does anybody know if a 240 door popper fits the 1987 model? I have seen it listed as working with 1979-1985, but I just wonder if I can adapt it to my later model.

Trunk popper I mean.

My last gen brick.

Clean my man

i love my fwd turbo rustbox
s40 t5 at 160k, should probably do the timing belt soon

v70Rs are indeed good
get a P2 chassis, you can't use as many cheaper 850 parts but power is increased
avoid the bad trans software years (2002-3?)
>good things:
*brembo brakes
*2005 update gets 6 speed auto
*AWD

the p80 chassis are also good and have even more parts compatibility with 850s but are harder to find and aren't as powerful
>good things:
*throttle by wire until '99
*no "fat doors" design
*mildly better aftermarket, cheaper parts

Aw yeah. Whats up volvbr/o/s!?

Who here also has multiples?

I have:

'90 245, my daily
'91 944Turbo
'90 244

Eurofag in Cali, need a 1st car. Max budget is 6,5k.

Volvo S60 - 2007
75k miles
Clean Title
Timing belt, brakes, wheels changed
The interior is pretty good condition, outside good
Dealership is asking me 8k out of the door.. (i think i might be able to negociate it arround 5/6.5k)

What do you think ? Is it worth it or I can find better for a similar price ?

Buy from a private dealer and you can probably get that for 3k

was thinking about asking 6k for seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/6072997621.html

first car, what do you think? Has the 2.5t

Planning on putting a hitch on it to carry my dirtbike

>buying nu-Volvo
Literally why?

NOT a brick.

Nah brah, 850s qualify

I'm an 18 year old student looking for my first car.

what do you think of this listing?

looks flippin terrible

where do you live, thats way overpriced

California.

the mileage is really high but most of the other Volvo 240s I see for around this price are in shit condition and have no records.

>pic very unrelated

why do you want an old ass 240 as your first car?

get an early 90s 940 or something more reliable, they're super cheap up here in washington

only stuffs that is the same is the drivetrain, gearbox should fit, diff should fit, engine should fit (with some adjustments)

Thats cool

> Computer controlled everything
> More Reliable

Mate, I've got a 850 T5R and jesus fucken christ its a hunk of junk.

At least with a pre-90 240 all you have to worry about electrically is the earths

reliable as in it wont break down on the side of the highway when you go over 50mph

I guess I just like old volvos, no clue why. Any RWD Volvo wagon is the dream right now. I thought the older 240s were pretty damn bulletproof except for the horrible wiring harness.

I'm looking for work but as it stands I've got $300 and i'll probably get around $500 in grad money after this month.
Pic related is my "current car". Hasn't left the driveway in 2 years but runs. I jumped it a month ago and it started right up with no hesitation.

2007 dodge caliber 2.0l CVT

family member that gave it to me never paid it off. $700 owed. Probably will never be repo'd. lien title.

no accidents on VIN check but I know it has been in 2 collisions

body and interior are in pretty good shape

Here are the bad things about the car:

It's a dodge
201k miles. Mostly highway commute miles but still bad.
It has the garbage jatco CVT with no dipstick. if you drive it for too long (especially on a hot day or up too many hills) the tranny goes into limp mode and locks you at around 30mph until it cools.
needs a new battery
needs every fluid replaced
needs new transmission or at least a flush
needs new motor mounts
water pump is due for change but it still works
possible seized brakes
Tires hold air but they probably have flat spots or dry rot

I want this out of my life asap

oh I forgot the suspension is shot too.

Nothing wrong with the wiring, just avoid 86-88 else the wires are 'biodegradeable'

I have a 83 244 that I daily and a 89 245 thats spare and neither of them have any problems and the wagon has 400k on the clock when the odo stopped in 2012

Old Volvo's are reliable as in 'If its going to break down its fixable' reliable.

Ever tried to do anything on a computerised car without a computer?

>hunk of junk
sell it, you obviously don't deserve it

>mfw OBDII scanners are less than $20
>dongles are less than $10
okay grandpa

I understand what youre trying to say, but as a previous owner of two 850s and a 940 wagon. My life has been completely changed by buying a hunk of shit 240. Its cheap, its easy as fuck to trouble shoot. Parts arent always the easiest but replacing 5 different things on my 240 is still cheaper than 1 thing on my 850.

Bruh push that off a cliff

I follow a grill on IG who has a clean as fuck 360. I want one so bad.

Ok I see this happen a lot on Veeky Forums now, people see the "Miata meme" "Volvo meme", "mr2 meme" but they don't know how to work on cars or anything about cars really, so they end up buying an NC instead of an NA, they buy a fwd/awd Volvo, they buy an MRS.
They saw the meme and thought they were good cars, but they completely missed the point, they ended up buying the cucked versions of the cars they wanted because they didn't realize what the fuck they were buying.
It's kinda funny but kinda sad at the same time.

working on electronically-controlled cars is no more difficult, you just have to have a different skillset

It's not about electronically controlled, it's about the engine pointing the wrong direction

europe looks so depressing

What can you Volvofriends tell me about the 242 DL? I've had my eye out for a GT or GLT for some time, but the only ones showing up on the market are complete trash heaps. However, there's a number of DLs in decent to good condition near me, so I'm wondering how those compare.

...

...

Its actually PA

I remember the thread where people roasted the shit out of him

Nevsr been to Tempe, is it nice?

>last gen brick
i got you beat by at least 2 years
(not my car but same model)

...

Vegas

my 944, I bought a 16v cylinder head for it last year and i'm porting it. Post the pics of the portjob so far Y/N?

Do it.

Hey its OP. Can you answer my question about the rear diff?

who wants to buy my 144

why is that even a question?

Got the Hydras from my recently aquired 244 put on my 245 daily. Needs a drop so bad, but I can't bring myself to ride cut springs on a daily, especially with 3rd world tier rods here in Baltimore. I have a set of GTAs that will be going on once I do coilovers.

Where in PA? I'm from Chester County.

I'm not OP, but what is the question?

Ha, your 262 5.0 swapped right? You were spotted on V.I.S.I.T. (vehicles I see in traffic) on facebook. Get some caps for those Gemi's man!

How much for the 144?

My neighbors must love me....

Ultra poorfag here.

Does this seem like a decent deal?

Yeah, it's got a 5.0 and is my daily! That's hilarious, I'm not on facebook or in any groups really so I had no idea. Maybe getting caps, maybe switching to Multi-X 780 wheels, not sure yet.

I'm hoping for $7500 for the 144, but I know that's high and I'm open to offers. It's had a lot put into it though.
Manual swap, has a rebuilt engine to B20E spec, with VV71 cam, new suspension bushings, lowering springs, sway bars, new tires, steering box, shocks, brake booster, yadda yadda. Interior and trim is all really really nice, but it does have a crack in the dash and some surface rust around the taillights and in the spare wheel wells. Worst part is the shitty 2.5 inch exhaust that the previous owner installed, it rattles and is way too loud. Ordered a stock system from VP autoparts, but it isn't in stock yet and taking forever.

Guys, plz halp.

Where can I find a manual transmission V70 in burgerland?

>350
You will need $500 in parts to make it a remotely reliable car

Is the window trim on an 86 or later 240 just painted chrome?

yes. My '90 has chips in the painted frames revealing the chrome/stainless trim

Nice! Seems like a clean example, GLWS!

Its my first portjob so it's not really that good

...

Cool, I am replacing the window scrapers on my 87, and I'm thinking I may just peel of the paint rather than try to cover up the scratches and chips.
