Miata General /mg/

Checked the archive, didn't see a Miata General.

Today marks 5 weeks of searching for any clean M edition NA for up to 5500$. I've test driver two that turned out to be piles of shit, one owner lied and didn't even have the title for it. Anyone have any tips for landing an NA that isn't a fucked up craigslist car? I'm in San Diego, didn't expect finding a clean convertible to be so difficult.

First for Miatas are for fags.

I'm selling my E39 540i/6 to change over to a NA Miata. Fell in love with the first one I drove and decided European cars are pieces of shit.

>Mazda Miata is a pile of shit
>OP is suprised of this
>OP keeps looking for one

>5500$
>dollar sign after the amount
dumb fag. no wonder you're driving a miata.

why not both?
i have this thing and an NB miata and they're excellent foils of eachother, really, they make a good two car garage

Honestly just over my E39, tired of BMW guys scoffing at me because it isn't an M5 so I'd rather be back in the Japanese crowd. I'm full time at work and school together now and couldn't maintain both cars at the standard I desire.

So my buddy is looking to replace the door speakers on his 90 NA. What are some recommended speakers? Also, his head unit is some discontinued unit where we are unable to get any information on. What between the head unit and speakers need to be compatible?

Buy this one
Yeah or nah?

well first of all you gave us absolutely no info on the car.

Personally I wouldn't buy it based on what it looks like. But if you like go check it out to make sure it doesnt have rust.

starting out with a stock one beats starting out with a riced one.

>$5500

Just save up a few extra thousand and get a clean, boomer-owned NC instead.

>gayboii general

Fuk u nigr

If I am wanting a 14x7 wheel are the RPF1's my only choice?
They are kinda expensive at $170 each. I wish the Konig and Advanti wheels came in 14". You can get a 15x7 for $125 or less from them.

Because they are shittier wheels.

>clean out intake manifold and EGR valve
>tighten throttle cable until it opens by thought alone

Just picked up this for about $3000 everything stock, aside from radio and steering wheel. Also, no mechanical problems or rust. Feeling pretty euphoric right now.

>not deleted the egr

i like those wheels.
you should get them media blasted and re-powder coated. unless youre gonna put ricer wheels on it.

Those wheels are awful and the tires are way too tall

That one was one of the older pics of it the guy sent me. Here it is now.

What do you guys think about the S2000?

I wonder if I should have got one instead of my miata because they're going up in value and more sought after, not because they're objectively better. I like the digi dash.

Those are much worse.
No they aren't? They look like compomotives.

>too small
yeah you need some big meats for that 80hp 1.6

>go to take off head to switch out valves because its easier that way
>head bolt number 1 in sequence is stripped
a-are you serious

>because it's easier that way.
It's the only way..

you can switch out the valve stem seals without taking off the head but its really awkward

trying to get rid of a CEL bro not make more of them

you forgot to type the word seals

shit my bad

I just put 6 1/2 inches in mine, it fits without cutting but slightly offset from door hole and barely.

I said tall not small?

They are shit. That "digital" dash is cheap looking and gay. Fucking push button start but you have to use a key so wtf is the point? They aren't that reliable compared to other Honda products of that era. Ricer tax even worse than le hair dresser car. Jose will tail you on the way home and strip your car while you're asleep (this happens regularly, which is why half of them have salvage titles nowadays). Basically, get a Miata (NA) or get a new Miata (ND).

>yellow fever

6'7 guy here. I'm considering buying an NA with 87k on it.

Besides cutting the foam out of the seat and mounts, what else would i have to do to fit in it comfortably?

Does anyone know what front bumper and side skirt are on this car? I see the Voltex logo but I can't find the model.

Armrest delete, recover door cards, replace door handles with straps.
It will give you more room

Wanted to drive 4 hours from San Diego to buy this, then I checked its VIN and it's had an odometer rollback for 40k+ miles. Why must I get shit on every time a car looks halfway decent?

>bumper-to-bumper

Post nice looking NBs (I only have NA)

GJ brah

>S2000
Where I live they're worth around 3~4 miatas

>because they're going up in value and more sought after,
The've been going up in value for the last 4 years. You missed the boat.

>head bolts rounded
>spark plugs rounded

$3000, stock, good running condition... is it by chance an auto?

Alright, advice wanted.

I've been looking for a miata for a couple months and in my area they're between 2k (shitty) and 7k (overpriced), with most between 3500-6000.

However, just saw this on Craigslist. It's a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata (turbo) with ~97k miles and it looks like it's in decent condition. The price is 5.2k, which seems normal for a non-MS miata. It sounds like people have problems with the factory ECU tune and gearing, so I don't know if the MSM is actually better or worse. While I'd love to have a turbo I don't have money to sink into one and I'd rather have no issues than a faster miata. Is it worth it, or should I just look for a regular miata?

I'm retarded, this is the right one.

post ur miatas

Hey neat, that's the same color gray of the one in the advertisements

i was kinda dissapointed at first desu
it looked like it was made of steel in promo pics but is alot darker irl

still great though

Looks like an S2 Racing Kai front bumper, but I could be wrong.

Dropped my wheels off for powder coating a couple weeks ago and went Friday to pick them up. The place made a mistake with them, so now they need to be redone. It'll probably be at least another 2 weeks until I get them back and am able to take my Miata out for the year.

The RF is so nice looking. Maybe one day I'll have something like it.

Nice, user. Here's my ND

I installed quilted floor liners/mats from Carbonmiata and new perf Nappa leather boots and armrest from Redlinegoods...

The shift knob is from JBR. You'll have to excuse the poor knob-boot fitment and misalignment at time of photo- too eager to take a snap.

Forgot pic

Just bought a 95 M edition last week. Here she is with my buddy's 94 M at the pumps on the way home.

rate my miat

How much, where at, what condition?

how many of these are they planning on making? I love the looks, and the fact that it's about as fast as a BRZ is pretty good too. I would buy one to replace my current non shitbox daily

$3500, sacramento, fucking pretty sick. 125k miles, no lifter tick (yet)

...

The RF makes my dick hard

you guys gonna touch dicks later?

Good car. Steering feel is a little numb because it's an early electric rack. AP1s were designed to fuck your shit up for being a bad driver. Harsh ride if you use typical summer tires...it's kinda better to use softer all-season tires to make the ride more compliant. For the insane price premium that clean S2Ks command these days (there's a dealership near me that's trying to offload an 8-owner 2001 for $20K), a Boxster S is a better deal.

>dat cupholder
Why did they even bother? I doubt I'll ever use mine.

>Merlot
Lucky bastard

>>Wrap headers/downpipe to see if it reduces a lot of the heat from the tranny tunnel
>It does, actually, I used to have the footwell vent on 2 all the time, now I'm barely needing it on 1
>Gasket from downpipe to cat works a little loose
>Epic fucking rasp starts at 5k on the way home, comes on almost like VVT

So grabbed a proper gasket on the way home anyway, but now I'm looking at my coilover funds and wondering if I should go header/pipes and squeeze some megasquirt in there for the AFM delete.

I have only money for 1 thing, why can't I have 2 money and 2 things?

its actually stull a tad bit faster than the brz. impressive all things considered
wouldve gotten the ND but poor people have a tendancy to cut softops around here
also hot climates are bad for softies

i dont regret paying extra though watching it fold and unfold like a transformer nevwr gets old

>Hood flex/10

Die wilde ik ook gaan kopen wtf man blijf weg.

Left side headlight cover is pushed down and hood is adjusted up to direct air into the intake

Always been of the opinion that pressurizing the bay and bypassing the rad wasn't the best idea.

Have you done a coolant reroute or larger rad?

Yeah ofc. The scoop is just for the intake, not meant to cool the engine bay. I'm thinking of adding a vent above the turbo though to equalize the pressure.

Above the turbo is almost the best neg press zone to put a vent anyway so long as you're venting out of the bay.

How are the cabin temps after a quick blat around the cones?

The car doesn't really get hot since the runs are over so quick, if anything it's more likely to overheat while staging in the paddock.

Cabin temps aren't too bad in general, tons of heat from the trans tunnel but not nearly as bad as my last miata which had no carpet

Tossing up between 15x7's with Direzzas or something, or getting a set of Tein Flex Z's,
both will cost me the same.

DESU I don't need wider/stickier tyres but the stock daisies don't sit well with me, then on the other hand if I really go hard in a corner when they're warm I get the feeling the body roll would be horrific with wider tyres still on stock shocks.

...

...

They're still a damn sight than the pop-out cupholders in the Boxster S I had prior to the ND.
> adjust for width, but only 1 inch deep
> any container immediately tips over

Why are used tail lights so expensive. Had some dick run into my car and fucked up the finish panel, trunk and light. Lights are like $70 for just one this is bogus

What model?

>finish panel

Never mind, NA. I have an extra set in good shape.

Ya it's a '90

I got one off a forum though but thanks!

>Lets go lets fucking now right now
>...let me nap first k

how hard is it for someone who has never worked on cars before to install a wideband gauge and a megasquirt 2 in a '02 NB

Hey I'm thinking about buying a beater miata that I can work on and rice. I'm thinking my budget for one is below 2500$. Anything to look out for when shopping for one?

For the na miata, are rails and butterfly brace separate items to purchase? Or if I buy the brace does that come with the rails

Yeah

i want this bumper

This came into the shop today. Not a Miata but it's in the MX series, close enough. A really old man just bought it and was getting safety & emissions done

There are online guides/YouTube vids and stuff. If you really don't want to learn about how it works you can just use the default tune to drive it to a tuning shop and they can do it for you.

The wideband isn't bad to do but you might want to buy an o2 sensor socket. It can get stuck sometimes.

miata.net/faq

Sweet, looks like an FD

If you buy the brace it comes with the rails iirc

inorite
racing beat type III nose. only problem is it's $560 unpainted, that's more than a fucking oem e39 m5 bumper what the tittyfuck.

combine it with a fastback hardtop and it'll look downright exotic, which it should be for a total of $2600 before painting

>be me
>make plans for first track day
>have to cancel at last second because no one nearby actually stocks automotive racing helmets that were open on a sunday and track day was the following monday at 7am
>ok, guess i wont go to that one
>go find a local store to buy a helmet at
>they dont actually stock them, they just order them as needed
>ok ask them to order me one
>wait 3 days
>wrong size
>ok ask them to get me the right one thi stime
>right size but some meme offbrand that i didn't really want but they had nothing else available
>get my shitty helmet finally
>prepare for a track day on tomorrow the 5th
>sunny weather the last 3 days, of course tomorrow is going to rain all day
>fine, whatever, i am not a pussy. i'll just deal with the rain even though it's an 8 hour outdoor event and i'll probably be miserable
>family tells me they are leaving for vacation and need me to watch the dog
>dog is epileptic, needs to be medicated 4x a day
>cant do my meme track day if i even wanted to now
>also mfw need to rent a uhaul trailer to tow my miat up and I need it for approximately 26 hours but the only option is either 24 hours or 48
>mfw the track day itself costs like $370
>mfw another $100 for the trailer
>mfw almost $500 just to drive in a fucking circle for 20 minutes
>mfw swallow the ultimate red pill and realize how retarded track days are and just packed my backs and went to Myles Standish state forest instead to illegally hoon

Or you could just live near a track. It takes me 1 hr to drive to the drift and circuit track with my friends, like 20 minutes to the drag strip. Sounds like your location is the problem

>being poor
>caring about the price of having fun

Get a better job

Cheers

This just popped up at a local dealer. Has 215K miles on it. From the pictures it looks like its in good shape. Dealer says its been very well maintained. By the photos the interior and exterior looks to be in great shape.

I'm planning on test driving it soon. If everything drives/works correctly and I see and hear no issues mechanically or body wise....

is the high mileage something I should worry about?

This is going to be a DIY car of sorts I plan to change minor things such as wheels and suspension as well as minor cosmetic stuff.
I just don't want my first project with this car to be an engine rebuild lol.

Pic related

The interior

so i finally realized why my car was running stupid and it was entirely my fault.
now i have the head off and while i have it off should i get someone to take the spark plugs out? theyre stuck in there pretty good and might be rounded off but they work just fine.
