fire is probably the worst element you could make it.

You will never need a gw axe in fire dark or water. anything else is meh, but might be usable. It's probably best as earth.

Is it feasible at all for a newshitter doing gw for the first time to farm up enough mats and get the gw character i want before the next gw? I have 200 1/2 pots and 500 seeds.

Quatre's 5* is core. He becomes a walking GW dagger.
Uno is also amazing. Even without his 5*, you can use him to play offensive classes while he babysits your team.
His stamina buff from his 5* might be good, too.
