If there's anything good that FNAF has done it's making animatronics a legit horror trope and really bringing into light what makes them so eerie and worthy of becoming a variety of monster.

I'm sure animatronics have been the topic of some horror films or games in the past but FNAF has definitely perfected it and made it more of a thing.

Yeah, the "ruined" animatronics have always been worse in design than the originals. They don't actually look like decaying animatronics. FNAF, FNAC, all of the rip offs don't understand this.

There's a reason we always refer to the characters as robots and not animatronics, and that's because Scott is fucking god tier at making robots.

I think part of it is that Scott doesn't want to stray from the iconography. He wants something accessible for kids. It sucks, but that probably explains why the closest the series has been to the uncanny valley was in the very first game.

Can we go back to talking about The Desolate Hope? That game played with such interesting themes, it's a shame it's not discussed more, especially when this is the alternative.

I identify with Malenz because he copes with the terrible circumstances of his life by receding within and living in a fantasy world of his own creation.
The guy's basically what every neet dreams of becoming; looking like a badass edge-lord who can shape and alter reality on the fly, while still living a sheltered and ultimately meaningless existence inside their own little safe-space.
Like most 4channers, he's giving up on life; simply waiting for death as he occupies himself with crappy toys and frivolous distractions.

In the context of Scott's depression this makes some Freudian sense.

To be fair, almost everyone seems to forget Rugrats from time to time. Even Gud forgot who he was when he last popped in.

Nah, that was just people's interpretation due to Coffee's secret plot-twist endgame of saving the fetus at the expense of everyone else around him. To me, the whole game was about finding purpose "hope" in an otherwise hopeless "desolate" situation. We saw that with the way the derelicts coped after being abandoned, but in the end, it was really about Coffee finding something worth living for, and the lengths he would go to to ensure his self imposed purpose was fulfilled.

Can we talk about William Afton? What kind of man builds a machine to kill kids, while having three of them himself? It's ridiculous, and feels like Scott gave no thought into how a serial killer having a family would affect the characterization.

He might have lost it and became insane when his wife died, only getting more and more insane as another family member was taken from him.

FNAF really is a franchise of mediocrity and wasted potential.

The Puppet or Golden Freddy are my pick for embodying the franchise
The Puppet is conceptually a good idea on paper ( a creepy sockpuppet) but the way it turns out is obnoxious, and is a clusterfuck.

Golden Freddy was creepy and mysterious at one point but now is an absolute clusterfuck because it had to appear again and again, and there had to be more "leepest dore" to appease underage Minecrafters. Afton is more of a symptom than a cause; if he wasn't there something worse would come up and take his place.

FNAF is actually worse than most horror franchises.

The only thing people stick around FNAF for is porn, because it stopped being a horror series some time ago.

It's like Fallout 3 and 4 in terms of how fucked it is in terms of relation to the original.

I guess I would have liked something a bit more subtle than Fazbear Entertainment being a company built on the foundation of producing evil robots to satiate the CEO's child killing tendencies.

How about just general corporate negligence? You know, like the first two game so gleefully parodied. An uncaring conglomerate putting out a faulty product because they know it's cheaper to deal with the law suits than fix what's broken.
Or maybe go for the ghost shenanigans; expand more on the puppet and the Atari dimension and all that neat stuff nobody remembers from fnaf 3.
Or hell, just don't dig too deep. Make every game only tangentially related to each other through the vaguest of connections and a shared theme while keeping the horror and basic story elements from the first game.

I'd say it's about half and half.
Some focus more on the comedy or disjointed one-shots, but there's little snippets of overarching story in almost everyone's work, even if it's not their primary focus. Alek is actually a bit of an outlier in that his Bonnie is so long lived and yet has almost no backstory to speak of.

I like it when you put effort into things.
