Yes it does only face one way, mainly because the explosion from a claymore isn't what kills you.

A claymore is a block of C4, with one side full of steel BB's, so essentially it's a shotgun blast from hell when it goes off.

It probably is for the user's safety, as well. Claymore's have a much larger kill-range IRL, so if it shot in all directions, it would be a big danger to friendlies as well as enemies, and it's tactical uses would be limited.

So claymores are designed to react to something in one direction and kill it.
