Have I been bamboozled Veeky Forums? I went to go check out a 01 Prelude, the guy was asking $2500 for it. I went to look at it and it looked good, it showed its miles (200k) but overall looked fine. The guy selling it was a nignog who I feel like lied about certain things. When I went to test it the key was so worn it wouldn't work half the time and the guy just said "man I aint neva seen it do dat b 4 " I went with it and ignored it and went to drive it. It drove fine and It felt powerful and relatively healthy. After awhile I noticed a knock when driving, The guy again said "man I aint neva heard it do dat b 4 " I went with it again, im not sure why. After awhile the sound go concerning and I said lets go to a mechanic, I offered to pay for an inspection. I let him drive to see how he works the car. He drives like a total nigger. (Over revs, slams brakes, slams shiftier) At one point he couldnt get the car into first and just violently forces it into it. I should have just backed out at this point but didn't. We get to the mechanic and he looks at the car says "I dont hear it"

and just told us to leave. It was late in the afternoon so most shops in my area were closed. After we go back I think about the car for awhile then take it for 2200. After I saw the oil was low and put more in hoping that would fix it, it didn't at all. Ive now been driving the car for a few days now and I can say this. First gear is fucked, some of the time it gets stuck half way and grinds, even with the clutch all the way in. You have to go into neutral, then try again. I took off the oil cap to feel for any pressure and the engine is blowing out so much air it can fight against my hand. Also today I was stuck in stop and go bumper to bumper up hill and at one point first sounded kinda like reverse (a slight whirring sound) then sounded like the tranny was gonna shit the bed. Eventually it stopped and hasn't done it since. I know I fucked up and was being really blind, idk wtf came over me thinking this was a good idea. Realistically how much would I have to sink into this to make it less likely to explode on the highway. Also the nigger only put regular, after a full tank of premium (which is 2.90 here) It ran a little better.

having a car knock on the test drive, and not having it start it always good signs of a quality vehicle. Also previous owner drove it like he's a 16 year old with something to prove.

I did buy it desu It starts fine now, I got a new key and the lock and ignition issues are gone. Car turns over pretty easy too.

I bet you're burning oil. Almost Prelude does it these days, and with 200k and presumably stock everything, yours is likely burning at least a bit. Check your oil frequently until you get used to a car and can determine how much oil it consumes. Also check your driveway for oil leaks, there are some seals that may have dried out by now if they were never replaced.
You should do all of the regular maintenance stuff too if you think it was neglected. Adjust your valves (they can get noisy), check the timing belt, new plugs, new filters, etc. And remove the liners in the wheel wells or wash them frequently, because they trap debris against the fender and will eventually cause rust.
Oh, and you can probably make the transmission a ton better with new fluid. Use pennzoil synchromesh.
