Veeky Forums I'm looking at some new cars...

Veeky Forums I'm looking at some new cars. I have a love for hot hatches (In the US) But they seem to be happening less and less in 2 door.

Lately I've been looking at the 2016 Hyundai Veloster Street Turbo and I'm really starting to dig it more. What's Veeky Forumss opinion?

I have one, that 3rd door is a gimmick

I can only fit midgets (5'9 ish) and not fat friends on the back seat. And getting on the 3rd door seats is a ritual of it's own as well.

I honestly don't need the back seats for any reason.

if you're set on a 2 door hot hatch that's relatively new, i suppose its either this or the mk7 gti. From what i've heard, theyre decent cars but the steering and turbo lag aren't great. But i imagine theyre still plenty fun and practical

Dog slow compared to all of its competition, however you will most likely save a lot of money. Velosters are cheap because the general public doesn't like them.

If you're serious about going "fast" then you should be looking elsewhere. Focus ST and the GTI mainly.

I have a base Veloster and I love it. Wish it were a bit faster though. Personally I'm waiting for the 2nd gen. With all the praise the new Elantra Sport is getting it should be a blast.

Also, Elantra Sport. Look into it. Also cheap.

Yeah, I have a 2016-2017 VT and they're fun and practical but pretty slowish compared to most cars. The turbo doesn't lag as much as you think it does activate at around 3.5k~ rpm

The base veloster is slow as a dog but the turbo is pretty respectable but still slow. Especially if you get the Rally edition or R-Spec

Nigger you retarded or something? There is no such thing as a 2door hatch. They're either 3 door or 5 door. Or if you get a bmw isetti, it's 1 door.

Well my biggest thing is for a decent Focus ST I'm looking at around 8-9k more unless I buy a 2013/2014 model with around 45k miles on it for 18k. (yes that's what the ST2s cost)

The R-Spec Vel starts at around 21k. Which to me seems like a steal as it's around the price of the Fiesta ST but isn't dog shit ugly.

Is it just a bad powerband? 200hp doesn't seem terrible to me.

2 conventional doors. 5 doors are not a hatch, they are a minivan without a sliding door.

>Is it just a bad powerband? 200hp doesn't seem terrible to me.

On stock yeah sort of. Also that 200HP is overestimated, it's practical 175~ wheel hp forgot but I found that online.
However with a tune from Tork you can get some good performance but you know the risk of using a tune.

The problem is the Veloster is based on the Accent platform and the chassis is not built to take that high amount of horsepower.

Also why the fuck do you want a hot hatch if you have no need for backseats at all? I made that mistake with getting my ms3, thinking "oh boi, the practicality and it's the fastest hot hatch!" (Pre rs). Then I realized that I don't plan on getting married or having children at all, I moved away from my friends and family so I literally never have anyone to drive around. Now I have all this room (read:weight) and sit at normal car height for no reason.

>What's Veeky Forumss opinion?
It's complete and utter trash. Burn the dealership down. Only retards buy these piles of shit

Hot Hatches to actually consider:
Kia Forte5 SX (The Veloster is based on the Accent so it's double shit. The Forte5 is based on the Elantra... but features better build quality and reliability than the Hyundai variant)
Ford Fiesta ST
Ford Focus ST
Ford Focus RS
Volkswagen Golf GTI
Volkswagen Golf R
Volkswagen Beetle R-Line (my personal favorite. Maximum sleeper status)
Fiat 500 Abarth (while this is known to have reliability issues, I can actually find nice things to say about it, unlike the Veloster. If you're an audiophile, this is the car for you)
Honda Civic Type R

There's also the upcoming Toyota Yaris GRMN with the 210 HP supercharged 1.8L, but that isn't out yet.

Out of all of them, I'd grab the bug. It's literally a Golf GTI, but with 2 less doors.

>veloster owner
The turbo is definitely quicker, things to keep in mind, the car is 3k plus lbs, it does still have problems with Rev hang, the steering and throttle response are still very numb because of the drive by wire (there are things that can be done to improve this.) aside from that, I love it, never had any real problems with almost 150k on it, great beater and lots of fun on back roads or highway pulls with almost 20 psi of boost.

I say test drive it but do not expect to be really fast on straight line, try it driving on curves with STM/TCS off (hold the button to the left of the push engine button). I still think the car is nice I love it, it excels at being a practical car with a little bit of juice to it.

>3k plus pounds
So is everything else in the last 5 years.

>2 conventional doors. 5 doors are not a hatch, they are a minivan without a sliding door.

Incorrect, hatch counts as the extra door. Don't be a retard m8. Hatchbacks are either 3 door or 5 door.

True, I just mean to say it's heavy in comparison to other two door hot hatches.

>lists honda Civic type R
>35k
>for a civic
Same problem with the Focus RS, which is actually mark up at 40k. No thanks.

Also, more than two doors is ugly as sin. If the Fiesta ST had a lower roof and we got the ST200 in the states I'd go for that. But since that has 0% chance of happening I'm stuck looking for something else.

...

Then it bottle down to either the VT, Fiesta ST or Golf R/GTI

Everything else is more expensive.

I would rather buy a used bug eye WRX wagon over that and gladly pay to have it fully rebuilt.

Hyundai and Kia models are literally built in the same factory. Why is everyone spreading this urban legend that Kia has better reliability than its own sister brand?

>Koreashit
Kys.

I agree with all that, but the options remain. OP never stipulated a budget. Either way, I would highly recommend a GTI or Beetle R-line

>Golf
>Beetle
>Fiat

Literally girls cars with shit reliability.

Also the 2dr Golf is no longer sold in NA.

Aren't you tired yet

because it's true.

4 doors are good though, "hot hatches" aren't fast and sporty enough to be worth the compromise of having only 2 doors plus the hatch.

Design of the modern beetle is the only thing that holds me back.

Should have ended with the type 1

>Also the 2dr Golf is no longer sold in NA.
Yes it is. It's just called the Beetle.

>girls cars
I didn't know your masculinity was so easily called into question. Is your self esteem really that weak?

The 400lb difference in weight however is.

>calling a Fiesta ST dog shit ugly
>compared to a fuckin Velosturd
top kek m8y

But it's a girls car user, I'm a tough dude. :(

the VT is pretty heavy even without the sunroof

Doesn't those charts flip flop insanely every year? I don't know why people use that as a reliable source

It's around 2800lbs.The Focus ST weighs in at 3200lbs.

>$65k
>for a c class
this is what you sound like

You're a pussy.

Here's a 500 HP awd Beetle

it's based on actual reported problems of 3 year old cars. Consumer Reports numbers are literally PREDICTED reliability, which just means they're arbitrary numbers pulled from their asses.

Yes, they do. JD Power is 10 percent people actually taking the time to fill out a random-ass survey that shows up in their spam folder, and 90 percent which manufacturer coughs up enough contributions to use JD Power in their advertisements.

The weight difference between the GTI and Focus ST is only 250, and the FoST has 40 HP more. You could save a lot of weight just ditching the spare and using lightweight wheels.

It screems boy-racer yet it's a slow turd.
The depreciaition is fast though.

Too bad they all only come in Automatic. Just got done checking the build your own site. Every single model is 6 speed automatic.

>Too bad they all only come in Automatic.
what? Beetle R-line has either a 6 speed DSG or a 6 speed manual. Choose your bait better.

Personally I don't understand the appeal of 2 door hatches. I like hot hatches just fine, but at the end of the day it's still shaped like goddamned blob even if you take away 2 doors. Why are you trying to make a practical, fun, sporty car even less practical?

"hey guys...technically i have a liftback, which is basically a hatch...and two doors...and trd...guys..."

>bait

>469hp
>$65k

Pretty fucking pathetic.

I unironically highly recommend these

>SEL

>$33k for a beetle

That is the only SR-line on their website you nigger.

That's only for 2017 models you nigger. 2017 was the mid-model refresh. They got rid of the manual for 2017 due to shit sales. 2012-2016 cars did have a manual option.

oh no i agree theyre actually pretty good, but that would be even slower than the VT

>but that would be even slower than the VT
Not by much actually.

>buying a used car
The fuck is wrong with you?

OP is looking at a 2016 model so he's clearly not interested in off the showroom floor new either.

not that user but who gives a fuck
>buying a beetle
>ever
just why.

because it's a genuinely good car?

Literally nobody buys it for the "muh beetle" sentimental value (they just tend to buy a legit type 1 Beetle).

The car is good, but the design is just too dumb for its time. Change the design and it's decent.

The interior isn't as good as the Golf. The exterior isn't as good as the Golf. And the performance isn't as good as the Golf.

And I hate the Golf. Too pedestrian.

The only thing holding the bug back is the stigma left behind by the 1997-2011 New Beetle. It's a genuinely good overlooked car.

>fat
>underpowered
>overpriced
>fwd
great car user. I'd rather spend a grand on an old beetle and do a swap

Like I'm saying, The design is the main thing holding the car back.

Literally nobody asked VW to keep making Beetles. Those that like Beetles just buy an older generation because to those Kafer purists the new Beetles are dumb. Meanwhile, the new kids want the Golf instead.

New Beetles are stuck in a limbo

...

>fwd
>bad
Remember the civic nurburing lap
This triggers the rwdfag

>benchracing

>underpowered
It has the exact same engine as the GTI. It's NOT underpowered

>fat
It doesn't weigh more than the Golf

>Overpriced
a bit, but not by much. Also good luck finding a rust free running DD-able old Beetle cheap.

>fwd
So? Show me a rwd hatch on the American market. Oh wait. They don't exist. Next complaint.

>likes FoST
>doesn't like FiST
>thinks Velosturd is better looking

user I think you're retarded... liking the Focus ST but no the Fiesta is bizarre, the Fiesta is literally a squished Focus near identical in looks.

fist me daddy

It needs an update. There are too many areas in which the Beetle is just lacking right now.

The mk8 Golf can't come soon enough so we can also get a New New New Beetle.

If the Fist looked like the Right anyone would have bought it.

Instead they got a very tall egg.

>show me a rwd hatch on the American market

...close enough?

nope.

There's charts are useless. They include shit like "customer couldn't figure out how to link blue tooth" or "voice control didn't understand my commands." Literally a survey of old retards.

It's the best thing we have since everything else is predicted reliability with no reality-based hard numbers.
