Lets be real here though. Every. Fucking. MH Game has had a single armor set or two with one weapon per category be the 'king'. Yet it be a stupid clown set ( 3U Comes to mind ), just the highest ratio of sharpness + raw, or the abuse of a status ( Blast for 3U ), this is how it's always came to be if you honestly cared past the looks. The only reason why people tend to settle for less is because they are still trying to climb up to a point to use that stuff, and are using secondary gear as a result.
At least here it's ether going to be Hellblade if you go HA Ham + blast spam, or Mantas for the Natural Purple + 3 slots to jerk off towards that +2 skill bonus. It doesn't help that everyone's come towards the feeling that element is beyond trash, Raw is all that really matters ( beyond Blast's free damage at times ), and there's only 1 Monster you honestly need to 'prep' for given it's mechanic makes it vexing to fight if you don't ( Posion on Kusha so you don't get wind pressured to useless ). If you want a MH game where you can't just use a single armor set, go to Frontier where they give monsters a shit ton of AoE's and special roars and winds JUST so you should build armor and weapon sets just around that one fight, but then hate yourself because you have to use selective weapons for those fights or suffer carting left and right.

How are the charms in XX?

Seem good, I have a Sharpness +7 charm and I have seem some of the lesser skills like KO King and Quick Sheath actually go to +10 on charms.

The only reason why 4U wasn't like this is because you could RNG dice roll Relic armor to be better then Star Knight or Uka Uka U. Without Guild Quest though those two would be 'king'.

Without a single piece of relic armor you could make a set with the following that outclassed Star Knight

Honed Blade
Razor Sharp
Challenger +2
HG Earplugs
Tremor Resist

Also another reason end sets where better in 4U is because both weapons with natural purple and weapons that need+1 where viable.

You still needed an amazing relic charm, though.

Diablos + (Whatever) For Crit Draw GS shitters.
Helios for Evasion fuckers.
Silver Rath For anyone else.

You don't even need a dual skill charm for that, its just Edge 4 OOO which is fucking common compared to the charms you need in X to outclass things Dreadking and Silver.

Shit hitzones everywhere except its head which is miles off the ground, very specific head openings that not all weapons have good ability to exploit, and it occasionally decides to fly around like an asshole for a while
