Update: my friends parent's are moving and his dad, who owned a Miata before, loved hoarding parts for it. So instead of bringing the parts with him to the new house, he decided to give it all to me.
I have a 1.8 bare block, brake pads, fuel pimpintake manifold, PS pump, radiator 5 speed trans, interior pieces and boxes full of a bunch of other shit. He told me I could pretty much buy a shell and build a 1.8 miata from the ground up with all the stuff he supplied me with or I could sell it if I wanted to. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow if anyone cares.
that looks to be a damn good deal. at least check it out in person.
Damn, son you lucked out on that one
regarding the '96...
I hope the owner is just incompetent or desperate to get rid of it because this looks far to cheap for it to be in any good shape. kinda torn right now, theres a pretty good looking NB that just went up also, but I want an NA.
Is the NA just a meme, or is there genuinely something special about it that the subsequent generations lacked?
Conflicted between an NA and NB
Are parts for the NA starting to become harder to find or something? I'm just really paranoid about buying a 20+ year old car vs getting something a little newer and perhaps more reliable. I really like the NAs but in my area theyre all busted, clean ones don't come up too often.
it has pop-up headlights and 25 years of "charm"
the NB is exactly the same car but significantly improved in structural integrity, safety, power, equipment, and reliability.
Get the NA if you want a more classic feel.
Get the NB if you want a slightly better daily driver and a touch more power.
They are both old now. You can find totally trashed NBs and fairly clean NAs out there.
You can tighten up even the most floppy worn out NA with a butterfly brace, frog arms, roll bar, and new suspension bits.
Got this for $120.
Good quality CF. No idea what manufacturer tho.
Any guesses?
as someone who is just looking to drive for the joy of it and not to commute daily, the NA seems like the better choice then, no?...
...
...
NA is perfect for that.
Maybe s2.
why the fuck don't y'all call them MX5's like you're supposed to
why not just call them Roadster for that authentic jay dee emm feel
Americans on Veeky Forums brainwashed me
Bought an NA 4 days ago, I already got a nast ass radiator leak...
ffs
Had to remove the battery today. Trying to get the negative off first is a real bitch
That's a broken fucking hose clamp. It's literally a $0.50 fix.
Because we grew up during the first 20+ years of the model being marketed as a Miata
>use the alphanumeric name.
Like there isn't enough alphanumeric faggotry in cars right now.....cars need more names. Less letter/number mumble jumble.
That is a worn out hose you fucking retard. Kill tourself for needing o to diagnose that for you.
>muh car broken already
Didn't ypur mom's new husband teach you how to car? Holy shit
Nope, my mom tried to open the cap for no fucking reason and poured some around but take a look at the top cover it's leaking from its joints
...
>mom tried to mechanic
Kick her right in the cunt for touching your car. This is how women get faces full of boiling coolant and steam......they literally take radiator cap off of a hot car.
Is that some cheap aftermarket radiator cap? If so, go back to OEM.
This guy fucks.
Anyone else /carwash/ this weekend?
My new-to-me 1996 Montego Blue with all options, 66k miles.

your wheel fitment is excellent
AP1 S2000 owner here. Tell me how retarded I am for wanting an NA. I know I can't have both. :(
I found the source of the terrible scraping noise. The timing belt was so stretched that it was hitting against the valve cover. It even ate into the aluminum a little haha.
Why can't you? NA is cheap and doesn't take up much space in the driveway
>Are parts for the NA starting to become harder to find or something?
Not at all. Most dealerships still carry NA parts, and there's a massive aftermarket that makes parts the dealerships no longer carry, like the gauge panel cowl.
ty bb
Do you guys have any idea why my NA always smells like something is burning?
Bought this last Friday.
I've already torn out most of the carpet and will have the rest of the dash out today after work.
Redoing the entire interior to be a minimalist design. Still working on what to do.
Think I've settle on completely removing carpeting and just repainting the interior.
Anyone have an idea what color code they use for the tan interior? I want to make my green miat look a bit brighter on the inside.
What a rough cost estimate on a belt replacement for a NA 1.8?
Also for brakes....
That would be the goddamn flamer in the drivers seat
Driver+passenger dicks rubbing together prob.
what does it smell like is burning? Like cloth? Oil? What?
pubic hair
Depends on the mechanic or if you're doing it yourself
>do a compression test
>all cylinders are around 170~
>fourth is 200, adding oil skyrockets to near 300
so ok its for sure a piston ring
should i order the part and take it to a mechanic? or should i just get a new head off cl or somethin? i dunno if i can do that myself to be honest.
Don't really have a space/tools to do it myself, so it'd be a mechanic
I'm a little nervous about working on my timing belt. Are there any tips you guys could give out in making as little error as possible when doing this shit along with my water pump?
Up to 150 for serp belt, but typically 100 or less. Call the shop, give your car model and they should be able to give you a book price.
Brakes are about 100 per axle if just the pads, some people charge more. Call ahead and get an estimate.
Both of these things are really easy to do yourself btw, and it would save you well over 100 dollars after buying the tools.
miata.net
follow the instructions from the site you stole the image from.
word mate. i honestly just googled imaged it. during the time I waited for a response, I found that site.
It's pretty smart actually because then you can have a fun car to fling around without having to care as much about wrapping it around a tree. If the current trend continues, clean AP1s will be as valuable as new GT3 RSes by this time next year.
Thanks hombre
Redpill me on paying $7000 for a 2001 LS
Out of interest, are miatas your only car, or do you guys have another car to DD and haul shit?
Miata seems perfect for me in almost all respects, but fuck you can haul nothing in them. I do quite a bit of camping and surfing and shit and obviously that's a pretty big challenge in a miata.
Do I just have a miata for funs and a cheap wagon for having more than 2 seats? How expensive is having 2 cars?
It's a Jewish conspiracy
just get a single bigger car
Speaking of too good to be true...
I have a 01 Z71 Tahoe for DD. They last forever and never need repairs.
The Miata is a project car, and it's turning out to be a massive project. I'm redoing damn near everything. I want to rustproof this car and make it a street legal fun mobile. No carpet, reclining racing seats, nice radio, coilovers, turbo, etc. It's going to be expensive.
As for maintaining both and their cost. $700 every 6 months for insurance and typical maintenance is less than $100 a month.
What do you think of the Abarth Fiata?
This. I never knew MX-5 were called miatas until I started browsing Veeky Forums and now I'm used to it. I'm not from USA or Europe though.
got an na couple weeks ago... taking it to a reputable miata shop tomorrow but just wondering if anyone knows what a kinda spinning rattle squeal sound is from the engine bay? sometimes it goes faster with the rpms. it goes away sometimes but i dont wanna risk anything. no space to work on car either
Thats really steep. You can get a clean Mazdaspeed for less than that.
Not as good as a fiero with a bodykit
>looking at a 2004? Mazdaspeed miata
>great condition, super clean
>all stock for 5,500$
>but it has 198k miles
Decent deal? I know the n/a engines dont have a problem with that mileage, but what about the turbos?
Future miata owner here, what would be the max to pay for a mint condition NB (2004) with 70K miles? It's listed for $9500.
>cars.com
>bloomington.craigslist.org
You should mention its a MSM. Unfortunately that price isnt that crazy and falls in line with other low mileage MSM.
Sounds like a old/loose belt. You don't even need room to work on the car, just pop the hood and try to hear where the sound is coming from. There aren't too many places that noise could be coming from.
so i called the local mechanic and he quoted me 104~ to replace the seals and i might as well ask him to do the valve stem seals as well (since i already have them)
thatll probably put me around 200-250 for both of these.
he recommended that i should just do a rebuild instead, but quoted me around 3500 for that.
so is it safe to just go with those two and shave off the lip above the cylinder with something and just run the car? i really dont want to have to save a ton of money up just to get the car running and im probably just gonna 1.8l swap it in a year or so.
>150 for serp belt
>100 per axle for pads

dude...find a way to do it yourself. at least do the serpentine belt yourself. it's incredibly fucking easy. you could knock it out in a grocery store parking lot in less than 15 minutes. just use the jack in your trunk to do your brakes. either buy a jack stand (one should be fine) or rest your car on a wheel
check out the car passion channel on youtube. the guy has a video on NA water pumps and timing belts. its incredibly detailed
MSM? Main Stream Meteor?
Sorry, newfag.
Mazda Speed Miata.
>didn't even notice the turbo in description
Oh shit well that makes sense.
>Both of these things are really easy to do yourself btw, and it would save you well over 100 dollars after buying the tools.
You're not very intelligent, are you?
I thought you might have meant that. Trouble is, it's a 2002 in the craigslist ad and the mazda speed miata didn't come out until 2004. It's just a Miata LS, which doesn't have a turbo unlike the mazda speed miata.
why do you like miatas???
Small, fun, cute as a button, and pretty damn inexpensive compared to other roadsters.
the NB is more responsive, has more power, and requires less modification. What you'd bolt onto an NA to make it as stiff and tight-handling as an NB will also make it as heavy as an NB, which is still less than a paper cup.
with a 1.8 NB, 5th is actually a useful forward gear. You can accelerate and overtake without touching the shifter. Even though the difference between an NA8 and an NB 1.8 is like maybe 10 horsepower, it makes a huge drivability difference in a car so light.
if you are a big guy, an NA will fit you better, while the NB has thicker door cards and plusher seats that can be a challenge to find a comfy position, but it's possible.
NA cupholders can't hold anything, NB1 cupholders can only hold Fiji bottles.
Are Miatas the thinkpads of cars?
where the FUCK do I buy new speakers? I bought and returned two sets that didn't fit and I'll just buy them online now. I don't trust the online resources, I only trust you guys.
NA btw

Hey guys wanted a little advice for my first car ever and been looking at miatas for a while. What do you guys think of this thing? Worth or nah?
>says he can take wheels off for the stock ones
Shit sorry forgot link im stoned af.

It's a qtp2t waifu in car form.
this
>those wheels
>dat camber
>mfw
Maybe it's worth a look if it passes a PPI but the wheels and alignment need to be unfucked yesterday. Also the rattlecan paintjob can fuck off. Not worth almost $4k
Stay far away. Very far away. The good-idea fairy already rubbed its cock all over it.
Thanks I live in southern california and it's hard to find a fully stock one around here. Under 4k at least...
i got a 120k mile stock 91 manual for $2300 in socal. got lucky :) had to drive 2.5 hours for it tho
is it bad that I want to pour a stupid amount of money into a singer style / outlaw restomod miata build?
which car do I even start with? what engine?
Dang did you have to haggle for it? I wouldn't mind driving a few hours for a deal like that.
i actually brought it down from 2500 to 2300. i feel like maaaaybe i couldve even gone to 2100 but i didnt wanna push it. it was already seemingly too good to be true (good condition, stock, 2 owner, 120k miles for an almost 30 year old car!)
same. and the drive back was awesome. never had driven a rwd car before and the miata is just a fucking blast. been loving it since
he had it up for a couple days before i got it, he said he was getting mad calls for but i was the second to see it, the first guy lowballed real hard and left, i lucked out really. you just gotta open up craigs when youre ready and jump the gun.
I've thought about doing something like that too. I got a '93 just last week.

Hello friends I am a true retard
I went and looked at a Miata today and it felt like it drove fine, but it was a little lowered and the front end of the underbody was real banged up, and had like a couple of uneven, baseball sized holes. It didn't look like it was made by rust (but then again this is literally the first time I've looked at a car so I don't really know)
It seemed fine and I live in a country where rust isn't really an issue
Should I cop it? Cute BRG NA6 open diff (was looking for lsd but Miatas are kinda rare here)
Pls advise comrades
>it was a little lowered and the front end of the underbody was real banged up, and had like a couple of uneven, baseball sized holes.
You are retarded.. no. do not buy a miata that looks like It's been in a wreck.
I copped one for 3k that's running smooth.
What's the average price to repaint all body panels on an NA?
It's expensive and red, otherwise looks good though.
Depends on the shop and how well you want it done.
The numbers will be all over the board, depending on different factors.
