In 2017, diesel has become better than petrol.
Prove me wrong
Diesel pros
>more torque
>more economical
>more power down low
>overtakes faster
>power delivery rough as fuck makes it feel faster than it is
Diesel cons
>muh sound
>muh 1000 fewer revs
>muh powerband starts at 2000 instead of 4000
>pollutes more (who cares??)

here's a pic of a 125d getting 16 mpg at 150 mph on the autobahn. on a regular run keeping a very fast rhythm it will get 35/40 mpg us easily.
you can set the cruise at 120 mph and it will return almost 25 mpg.
it has 225 hp and 330 ft lb (450 nm) and goes 0-60 in 6.3 seconds.
why would a sane human being go for the 125i which is going to get 35% worse fuel economy while being slower most times in the real world?
There is LITERALLY no objective advantage to petrol anymore.

Diesel cuck detected.

Diesel cons
>taxed to shit

Ftfy

Diesel cars literally don't run at high altitude.

Then how do they use diesel in aircraft?

>pollutes more
wrong. ultra low sulphur + DEF & DPF + a good tune has diesel engines making more power and running cleaner. The future is diesel.

my truck gets 31mpg on the highway with an inline 4 and 32's

>having to piss in your car to make it not kill all wild life

so poor you can't afford to fill a 5 gallon tank that cost 10 dollars every 300 gallons of fuel

All modern diesels use turbocharging, so altitude isn't a problem.

The main things are cost (expect to pay a shitload more for a diesel version of a car/truck), and reliability.

Common rail diesels have plenty of problems with injectors, EGR, suction control valves, turbochargers, sensors, etc. Working on them is annoying, parts cost more, so repairs cost heaps

Also you feel like a farmer driving these things without being able to rev up to 7k rpm and it just feels shit. Why the fuck would one ever by a farmer engine in a car?

Diesels have way too much emissions equipment on them nowadays. Specifically for diesel trucks.

Diesel belongs in agricultural machinery, not in cars.

Petrol emissions are theorised to maybe accelerate by a possibly measurable amount a natural process. Diesel emissions are proven without doubt to kill biological life. That aside from the lies about power etc

why exactly?

Diesel is a meme for anonymous sex

>more torque

That's the torque at the drive shaft, you want to know the torque at the wheels...and you might be surprised to know that in the end a turbo petrol engine compared to a similar turbo Diesel one could have better figures.

Also the Diesel engine is heavier and therefore you have extra weight on the front of your car. You don't want it.

A diesel engine has generally more torque for a given horsepower, and has a more usable torque curve than the equivalent gas engine.

Also
>You wanna know the torque at the wheels.
Yeah, a gas engine with less torque can have shorter gears to get more torque to the wheels. The same can be done with the diesel.

>Extra weight.
Not gonna argue with that one. Diesel engines have come a long way, but still lag behind in power:weight ratio. Not that most of the people who buy diesel cares, tho.

Diesel is fucking amazing and addicting as fuck.
Only prejudiced fags who never drove a modern diesel talk shit about it.

>le diesel fiat maymay
In all seriousness I wish there were more small diesels in North America.

so poor you can't afford fuel

Literally the same tax in every state in freedom land. No one gives a shit about you sand nigger lovers, so your taxes are irrelevant.

What exactly the fuck are you smoking? THE defining characteristic of diesel is that it's more reliable than gas.
