You take only half of damage when opponent is mainwheel and you're on-element. Your own 50% elemental bonus is very small in comparison unless you're running double weapon summon or Grande setups, so it's mostly for defensive purposes.
Light and Dark are the ultimate defensive and offensive elements respectively and are your go-to choices when up vs Light/Dark or colorless enemies. Windmemes were a mistake.
