I think the implication is that child monsters draw from the parent monster's SOUL, so an orphan monster would just die without parents.

Or better yet, orphan monsters have to beg on the street for SOUL power so that they can survive, meaning that strangers would have to sacrifice their very life for some random kid. So it's easy to infer a lot of orphaned monsters just die in the alleys, not getting enough donors to sustain themselves.
