One thing I like about Killer Instinct is the collectibles and skins you can unlock as you progress.
Other fighting games should try and follow suit and have similar things for flavor/uniqueness.

[Popular Fighting Game] for example, is a great game but feels ultimately pointless at the end of the day. Yeah spare me the "they all are pointless" high IQ bit, we know we know.
Just saying, I don't feel any real sense of progression and working so hard to change rank is just mediocre in comparison. Slaughtering yourself for a tiny badge you only see at the start of a match. I just wish there was more to achieve or work for. Something to look forward to. Lazy color swaps hardly suffice.

Tekken does it very well too but with a general ingame money system. people love customisation and people love the carrot stick. It works so well for fighting games.
