This is what I realized a while ago, game is all about numbers and the heroes with the highest numbers will win. Heroes like Tusk, ES, ET, SD whose numbers get progressively worse and worse do less and less when they're chosen despite what they can do.

That is how you get better at dota, you realize this then start to make more calculated judgements. And it is not necessarily the highest number (stat heroes) win, but rather how effective their stats are and at what point in the game do they have a power spike. Some drafts you need to win by the 35 minute mark or your opponents will scale better than you.

The heroes you mention are not about having amazing stats and carrying the game, but having utility. ES and his stuns work the same all game, but he will become much easier to kill as the game goes on, same with SD. SD can scale by making copies of his farmed enemies/teammates, but he will never have the potential to output a lot of damage and survive as compared to a juggernaut.

"carries" and "supports" are defined by the utility/lack of and their potential with item builds and stat gains.

Utility is one thing, yes, but the numbers win in the end. Earth Spirit is still a popular pick, I'm sure if his spells do 0 damage he'll still get picked.
However, his win rates clearly tanked when his first wave of damage nerfs came. Stone push+pull+roll combo was around 550 damage at lvl 7+magnetize+optional urn, was undispellable and a guaranteed solo kill on almost every hero. His 5k WR was at 55%, now it's 48%.

These numbers build into your timings you mentioned. What you can achieve in what amount of time. How quickly you can kill someone and take an objective.
Alch was a good example of this. Being able to play at 2-3x speed of everyone else while having an ulti which increased your stats, being able to pick up one bounty rune past 30 mins and be able to get 800gold in a second. Time being a resource which determines the direction of the game, you have the advantage even though you made mistakes in the early game and ultimately being unpunished for it.

In my defense I picked first and expected my team to pick up the slack since at these levels AM is cancerous to play against since teams never have enough stuns/care to shut him down early on, so it was more of a damage control kind of pick
