I was hoping MWO would have been something like the new Incursion game mode, only on much larger (like Polar sized) randomly generated maps.

Omnimechs with 8/8 pod bonus were looking to keep those bonuses even with the skill tree build 2, when you looked at the PDF of mechs & bonuses.
For some Omnis like the Ebon Jag, yeah, there's nothing to be concerned about. For mechs like the Timberwolf with one model having an 8/8 of -30% UAC jam and another having +20% PPC velocity, it might be something to consider in having 2 of them.

That's for accuracy. Its damage falloff begins exactly where a medium laser's range ends. This is effectively equivalent in MWO. It cannot have the same range as an LPL because it clearly has the pinpoint damage advantage and weighs less.

330 meters before falloff is the absolute optimistic maximum in my predictions.

Snubbies have the largest short range band in the game, but outside of that it drops off in damage not unlike how MWO operates. Snubs are good at the maximum range of a medium laser, 9 hexes. It does 5 damage at large laser range of 15 hexes.

So in MWO terms; optimal range is 270m, sub optimal is 390m, last vestige of optimal is 540m, "I think I scratched his paint!" ~600m would be my guess for mac range from steep damage drop off.

Fair enough. I can only hope it becomes an okay brawling weapon, but that's likely too much to ask for.

It is, you can get a jam on the first click.

It's like a 15% chance to jam every time you double tap, but if you hold down the fire button and fire it like a regular AC5 then it will never jam.

Even with those occasional (and annoyingly frequent) jams, the UAC5 will do considerably more damage over time. It just really sucks when you need it and it jams instantly.

Sometimes the thing likes to shoot twice on a single click and that's almost always exactly when it auto-jams.

You can shoot twice from a single click if you double tap but keep the button pressed. That's actually how UACs are used most effectively, double tap just before the cycle completes so it looks like you fire two projectiles simultaneously.
