I have been stopped on foot, bicycle, and in my cars various times for looking "suspicious" (white as fuck). I hate being stopped for no reason, this shouldn't even be a thing.

The one and only time I got stopped for a "reason", was when I was doing 10 over, slightly before the speed sign that increased by said amount. The cop in a retarded gasm of joy, u turned mid intersection cutting through god knows how many of the lanes, and chased me down. Gave me a ticket for doing like 20-24 over (I honestly don't know if he added extra, or if he was speeding, and it added to mine).

The government will spew horrific propaganda about how you're dangerous and evil if you don't want these regulations (most of which are not rooted in safety at all and some of which cause more accidents).

Now onto the police. Our regular police officers are alright blokes. They are fair and if they catch you doing something, unless it's really dumb they will most likely let you off with a warning.

Highway patrol on the other hand, are a literal secret police force that's structure resembles the stazi or NKVD. Lifted right out of the soviet playbook. They have sweeping powers that makes them unaccountable if you are an average citizen. They can impound your car for a month, before you get a court date. Guilty until proven innocent.

Highway patrol have been caught numerous times soliciting bribes by threatening to impound normal moms and dads who inevitably cave because they can't be without their car for a month and there is ZERO legal recourse to get it out of impound.

What makes it worse is the quotas. They deny that they exist, but leaked emails tell another story. We have a massive nigger crimewave here in melbourne, home invasions and carjackings that make it look like mini-africa. Our judges keep letting the same criminals out.

The head police officers are forcing the regular police officers to assist highway patrol in sweeping operations to nab as many drivers as possible = more fines which is actually taking police off the beat and letting the home invasions continue.

Traffic cops in Australia are revenue raisers. Numerous state police services have been found to have "targets" (read; quotas) for "interactions with the public". I can't speak for SA, but in states where highway patrol (HWP and similar, like RPC) units exist they're staffed exclusively with dropkicks that the rest of the police force hates. Because you can't dismiss a cop for being an insufferable cunt hated by his peers, such officers end up shunted onto HWP as to be out of everyone's hair while they do real work.

The trouble with this is that you end up with an entire unit of rejects who know that they're hated by their peers as well as the public, and if they've ended up on HWP they're probably pretty shitty blokes to begin with. And because they work alone there's little accountability, especially in states like VIC where guilty-till-proven-innocent impound laws are in effect. It's either your shitbox gets impounded for a few months for "loss of traction" or you slip the copper fifty bucks. They'll pick easy targets too, like P-platers (generally younger, less experienced drivers) that are easy to intimidate, or Skylines and Impreza WRXes for easy defect and infringement notices.

If you get pulled up by a regular cop there's usually a reason for it (except for in SA, where they don't have a HWP unit and everyone's pushed into raising revenue). You might even get off with a warning if it's something like a brake light out, or you were going a little over the limit. If HWP pulls you up they'll find some excuse to get their hands in your wallet. Among other things "faded shift patterns" and "low washer fluid" are potential defects. Or they'll shake something loose in your engine bay and defect you for that.
