Nurburgring 24H coming up

ADAC Nürburgring 24H starts next Saturday 3:30 pm local time. Time to get hyped up!

Vodafone will stream 24h, as does German TV RTL Nitro.
English stream by Radio LeMans on YouTube, but I don't know which channel, the last one is terminated because of copyright infringement - wtf?

Veeky Forums's 24h threads are always legendary, coming up with meme-worthy webm's only seconds after being shown on the stream. Let's see some action from the last years and have a nice thread to discuss next weekends race.

Anyone here going there?

Are we going to have a repeat of 2016's winter wonderland?

So far, the forecast says 12°C at night and up to 24°C during the day – and not one single cloud at the sky.

Could be boring, guys.

Last year we had a last minute decision for the win: Black Falcon driver Maro Engel passed HTP Motorsport (both AMG GT) in the beginning of the last lap.
This was only possible, because HTP misjudged their pace and petrol and had to fill up in the 2nd to last lap. With 5 seconds between them, HTP stayed in the lead but after one lap, Engel passed in what HTP driver Renger van der Zande described as a "Harakiri" maneuver.

The usual Nürburgring endurance series saw very close races, this year, too. Both races so far were won by Manthey Racings Porsche 911 GT3 R - both times only decided in the last two laps. Olaf Manthey is a strategic genius, his Porsche wasn't really battling for the lead over most of the distance of the 4 hours races. Yet, in the end, it showed up right at the right time in the right spot when other cars failed due to crashes or misjudged pace and petrol, when Audi had to idle to the finish line after leading with quite some comfortable distance when it ran out of fuel, losing 4 places.

Not even 45 minutes into the race, and with sun still over 90% of the track, the Schwedenkreuz/Aremberg section were hit by hail. Coming from the 250+ kph section leading to Schwedenkreuz, drivers had no chance as they went through a "curtain" of hail at Schwedenkreuz, barely making that turn and then hydroplaning towards the Aremberg-right into the Fuchsröhre.
The few that made it through the Fuchsröhre down-compression-climb towards Adenauer Forst learned that their slick tires were of no use on the iced track.

Check this 8 minute video of the climb out of the Fuchsröhre, it starts sunny, followed by rain, hail and utter chaos:

...

So far, the forecast is showing sun-all-day and no signs of rain, for the next weekend. But the region, the Eifel, is known for sudden thunderstorms, specially on warm and sunny days. We might just get a similar surprise this year.

How are you going to watch the race?

Too busy watching GOATlonso enjoying a competitive car to watch this.

F1 is boring shit
Monaco is ok, but look at 2016: Rain in Monaco, everyone pissed their pants, safety car all the time.
Meanwhile, at the Nürburgring, cars crashed in the hail, half of the track was wet, half dry, some ice. The cars that crashed were rebuild to finish the race! That Cupra sitting in the dirt, unable to move, continued to race and led its class for a long time after it was fixed! After 24 hours of racing, the race was decided in the last lap!

F1 is boring shit compared to endurance racing.

24 HOURS ARE THE BEST HOURS

nice track, cool events

AND HE DIVES IN FOR AN OVERTAKE

...

why fucking bother to stop and why even bother to fucking get out?

he's safer in his own fucking car til the cars drive past

also they're cars paid by the manufactorer. they arent exactly going to exchange insurance

Of course, don't forget the Manta

i think the driver's knocked the fuck out

I get where you're coming from, but you're wrong.
1st it's safest to get out and behind the barriers, asap. That's also the recommended response. If you sit in your car and get hit, it could be more dangerous.
(Also on Touristenfahrten and on the German Autobahn it's advised that you get out and behind the barriers! And don't stop to help unless you see immediate action necessary! Else just keep driving or you'd create more danger to you and others!)
2nd: A lot of teams are manufacturer-supported, but most are privateers. A factory driver fucked up a privateer. Manufacturer car was still good to go, privateer car had 25,000 € damage. I don't know about that Ferrari team, though. Btw. those private teams are what makes the Nürburgring 24 so interesting. 200 cars on the track, creating some traffic.

...

there's also stuff within Brisbane and Townsville as well

hell this year's improved production races were good. guy by the name of Jordan Cox with his SiR (or maybe even Type R).

>overtakes RA64 Toyota Celica, V6 Holden Commondore and even a Mazda RX7

blackflag.jalopnik.com/jordan-cox-is-here-to-waste-you-all-in-his-little-honda-1793020245

he also had a close loss with a 3S-GE powered AE86 in brisbane too

...

...

i think what made the nurburgring special has pretty much faded. it seems too safe and predictable compared to the days of the 70s, 80s and 90s.

it seems too hoighty-toighty because anything that isnt european that was on the track racing with others just seems so fucking trashy

i'd might watch it if they mix in some Group B spec cars with Trans-Am to see who is the best driver and car instead of "OH IT MUST BE A FERRARI BECAUSE ITS ALWAYS THE BEST"

but i do understand the whole thing about gtfo of your car and behind the barriers though now

>it seems too safe and predictable
Riiight.

>car flips
OY VEY OY GEVALT SHUT IT DOWN! IMPROVE AERODYNAMIC RESTRICTIONS

Ferrari never won anything at the VLN/Nürburgring - mainly because they're rarely there. The company itself is not interested in Nürdburgring endurance racing. The teams just buy ready-to-race Ferraris.

Bentley is a big name at the Nürburgring. And these beasts are so awesome! I love them. They sound so obscene: youtube.com/watch?v=H1trmjcN4b0
Very recognizable at the Ring, every time! (I've been there, and the sound is even more brutal IRL. You can FEEL it!)

There are also some Ford Mustangs this year. And one even led the qualification race for a while a few weeks ago.

...

Based Manta of foxtail racing soul still in it? Or have they finally outlawed it?

>safe and predictable
There's nothing predictable at the Nürburgring. Be it the weather, the pace, stints and how much fuel you need, wether you hit traffic or not or how the traffic behaves, ... Watch it and try to predict the outcome, you'll be surprised.

They'll be there. Kissling Motorsport, Manta and Calibra.

They won't dare ban such an icon.

huh, it sounds pretty awesome too. weird headlights though. look's like a GTR's backlights
unless if its Niki Lauda getting roasted again. that shit's gonna be predictable
>cars race
>some kind of land speed record breaks
>1 or 3 cars crash
>considered to be one of the best tracks in the world yet Lauda himself fucking roasts the nurburging (both in speech and literally)

>Lauda
Go check an interview with Jacky Stewart about the Ring.

whats with the fucking chalk? looks like a ghetto neighbourhoods road

...

That's not chalk, it's paint, making the track very slippery sometimes. Fans climb over the barriers at night (specially the nights before the 24H, when everyone camps around the track) and they paint messages or penises on the track. Iconic, even Project Cars, Assetto Corsa, Gran Tourismo ... copy them as accurate as possible.

any meme tier messages?

"For wimps"

Didn't someone paint WAT Racing on the track ahead of 24h a few years ago?

anymore messages?

When is the racing? is it this weekend right now?

I'm searching. In the Fuchsröhre was a dare to masturbate at and onto the track (you're very close to the track, there). But I can't find photos.
Something about "Schnellspritzer" (quick-shooter)

>next saturday

Next saturday to sunday

there are also BMW, Porsche, VW, Opel ... logos

'ave it (safe the ring, as it was nearly run bancrupt)

...

i wonder if Veeky Forums, /pol/ and /k/ would get messages on the track

>Veeky Forums would have inital D and shittalking about cars
>/pol/ would have Nazi and anti immigration shit all over the road because germany whilst angela murkle is shown as a cuck
>/k/ would just shit all over it with cyka blyat messages
im digging that Type R message tho

AE86 graffiti

here's the Fuchsröhre Penis, I think

>save the ring
why tho? whats wrong
wasted opportunity for a Fujiwara tofu shop katakana bit
best one

see here:

Went bankrupt a few years ago and had to find new investors or close down. Apparently they did find new investors because it's still open, but I'm not sure if it turns a profit. Maintaining a 15 mile race track around a mountain costs a pretty penny.

noice

>why tho? whats wrong
A few years ago, the Ring company was run by the county and they nearly killed it. They tried to establish some sort of amusement park there but nearly went bankrupt (?). ADAC (German automobile club/insurance) who pays for the endurance race series offered to buy and run it. They sold to a russian guy. So far, he did a good job. But people where afraid he'd close it or something like that.

Touristenfahrten is the most important part: People can just drive a lap (under normal traffic rules - though no speed limits except for the entry points). People thought he'd take that away.

Seems healthy, so far. The rock music event came back to the Ring, though people aren't allowed to camp on the Nordschleife anymore.
Touristenfahrten became a bit more expensive but still a lot of people turn up every day.

It's 25 € a lap on a weekday (down from 27) but up to 30 € on a weekend (incl. friday). ~ 2000 for a year long pass.

Expences were cut, too.

Most of the graffiti is just like this. And not "maintained" so it's gone after a while. But some groups "maintain" theirs and come back to renew it.

This penis claimed sacrifices, and thus was removed.

that slav must be racking in the money right now

Painted track becomes hella slippy when it's wet so large painted areas are an absolute no-go. They usually only tolerate thin writing.

One time someone painted a huge square with a very slippery laquer onto the Dottinger Höhe, one of the 250+ kph sections.
