Is the mc a boy or girl

Probably a boy.

What the fuck, the last thread barely reached 300 replies and got bullshitted off?
It's not specified but honestly I think it'd be a boy if Hornet is supposed to be a "rival" or counterpart. Also Bretta is attracted first to you then Zote (who is male), so she'd either be straight or bisexual (doubtful), meaning you're more likely to be male than female.

Also you look very similar to Zote in the first place.

So I've heard people refer to this game as something comparable to Super Metroid, not just in general gameplay but also in quality.

As someone who really likes Super Metroid, how does this game really hold up compared to it?

Pretty good, huge map, diverse areas (mostly, some like Greenpath and Queens Gardens can look samey), decent visuals, 50-60 hours of playtime if you're running completionist, solid and simple combat, great soundtrack and there are unique npc's I guess.

Only real problem is there seems to be very little in the way of solid, conceivable lore, meaning that potentially important aspects of the game are reduced to fan theories.

>and there are unique npc's I guess

If you don't scrape together their lore by delving deep into it, most NPCs are pretty meaningless and dull. They speak about 10 lines at most throughout the entire game.

Maybe it's just me, but I haven't found any of them interesting, except for Hornet because of her fighting style.

A lot of NPC's could use more dialogue. I think this game made a mistake in copying Dark Souls method of NPC's and "storytelling", which is lackluster at best.

as the other user said the lack of line and the fact that there is bit of lore scattered everywhere is their way of telling the story to make you guess or wonder what could be the missing piece you dont have yet and when you have everything in place its supposed to make sense, thing is the story is way more complicate that what you can tell with so little line/hint and things can be hard to understand or up to the player

Do fragile charms break in dream fights? ex. failed knight, lost kin?

>lackluster at best
TIs a matter of taste my friend. When first playing trough I found information in sufficent and whilst completing ~95% blind still missed a big secret and a few small ones.

On consecutive playtrough tho I found that if you pay attention and don't forget shit people say and think, you will find out quite a deep and self consistent well of lore about all important charchters. Tho there are few instances where details are left to the player's imagination, a lot is quite clearly stated, just walled off behind a number of arcane interactions involving speaking with certain charachters with right charms equipped, which is one bit I didn't like because it was never properly introduced.

All in all dark souls story telling is neither good nor bad, it's simply a style that many, like myself, enjoy overall and many find lacklustre because it hides things, important things, from player to encourage exploration.

To give you just one example, all 5 of the king's knights fates are revealied in the game in one way or another, but you'd not notice, or recognise it if you aren't looking.

I do believe so.

I don't think so, the only "dream fight" it breaks in is Radiance

is right. Dying to Failed Knight, Lost Kin or Soul Tyrant won't break fragile charms. Dying anywhere else will.

...

noice

Not enough of these.

There's plenty, actually

There's never enough

Dead thread. Post more bug butts.

Last thread died too, we need either more players or more content.

Hornet addition will probably revive them something fierce.

We could just move to /indie/ with all the other eternally ded threds until content picks up.

It'll get people drawing even more art of her at the very least.

Probably the correct answer, once this thread dies. It'll keep the mods off our backs, too.

Switch release will bring a lot more people

Or more art in general. This game has an incredibly cute aesthetic. I'm surprised more people on tumblr aren't drawing as much cozy feel-good art as they could.

The porn is just more of a bonus, really.

>in fool's coliseum
>enemy spawns
>lag
>hit by attack
>lag
>fall into spikes
>lag
>exist
>lag

are there any rewards for completing the last trial or is just for geo and an achievement?

Completion %, I believe.

Overshadowing really killed release, but with the influx of streams and sales, It's just a matter of time.

Yeah. You need the boss of it for the Hunter's Journal.

>Steel Soul Mode
>Deepnest
>Lost
>1 Heart left

genderless, tentacled shadow monster

>As someone who really likes Super Metroid, how does this game really hold up compared to it?

Super Metroid, Mega Man X, and Dark Souls had a love child and it's better than all 3.

Completionist is more a 40 hour run unless you're dicking around a hell of a lot or get stuck in SMB hell or the arena.

Or releases on more consoles.

>but with the influx of streams and sales, It's just a matter of time.
I'm basically expecting this to be the next Shovel Knight at this point.

It's got enough downstabbing.

Reminder that a bunch of terrible charm synergies exist.

use extra invulnerability

dont talk to me unless you overcharm Joni+lifeblood Core+lifeblood heart

Wouldn't the fragile hp up give more health than lifeblood heart with Joni?

Shit charm build on purpose

I thought this faggot game was supposed to be 70+ hours but I've played close to 11 and found over half of stag stations and just was given the Dreamers' locations so the end of the game is gearing up. What the fuck?

I vaguely remember seeing a full picture of the map and I thought it was much larger.

true, I think the switch will get it to mainstream, especially with the Zelda circlejerk being a little calmer by then

Depends on your playstyle, you have no soul vessels yet and you find Dreamers very early.

...

I didn't know a dead-on-arrival metroidvania could even sustain bait

>and just was given the Dreamers' locations
Congrats, you're between 25% and 40% of the way through the game. Dreamers unlock the final boss, then there's getting to 100%, then there's tracking down the secret ending triggers, then there's true final boss, then there's completing the bestiary and unlocking the completion scene for that.

And it's a 40 hour game.

Cool, thanks. I went into the big egg and a bunch of douches told me to sit down so I did, and then they died. Did they have anything good to say? I only spoke to the group at the entrance.

they all suggest you sit and rest basically

I'm glad that I activated the Stag Station and went back to the start to rest before even going into that egg. I was 1 hit from death when I found that place. I have no idea what would have happened if I died in there.

lost 3000 geo because of that place and the devout fuckers

What can men do against such reckless comfy?

That ain't greenpath baka

but that's the least comfy hotsprings

>but that's the least comfy hotsprings
You didn't find the breakable wall in the Colosseum?

>Nice Speaker Music
>Comfy seats
>Air is still
Tram station is most comfy

I finally found the tram pass.
Jesus weeps i have tried beating the False Knight and the Lost Kin and either i do not have the right charms or i might just need to git gud.

Has anyone else noticed another hollow knight on the screen before. This one did not move.

>Jesus weeps i have tried beating the False Knight and the Lost Kin and either i do not have the right charms or i might just need to git gud.
Upgrade your nail

>Has anyone else noticed another hollow knight on the screen before.
You can get to him via a breakable wall left of the hotsprings.

>False Night

Did anyone else not get the Hornet cut scene that triggers when you get to the fountain at the City of Tears?

I have the first upgrade and have acquired another piece of pale ore. i need to find a second.

thanks, i will check it out.

>Retarded

First upgrade doesn't require pale ore. You've got a level 3 nail. You can get to level 5 without fighting either.

...

yesssssssssssssssssssss

...

sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeit nice job user

...

>when your poor crisis management kicks in
Fuck me, this place is tough.

Did you just exit the game every time you dropped to 1 hp?

How do I rescue Zote the second time? I found him, couldn't get to him, panicked because I was carrying too much Geo and not enough HP, left, and cannot find him again.

That's not even the hard part. Fuck, that's not even the hard part of that set of waves.

I'm just gonna give you a protip: Quick Focus+Mark of Pride+Quick Slash+Stalwart Shell

>Quick Focus+Mark of Pride+Quick Slash+Stalwart Shell
Will give it a shot, thanks

wtf I saw an npc doing something at the entrance to infected crossroads but when he noticed me he flew away

what was it?

Man, speaking of Infected Crossroads, was it really necessary of them to just randomly cut off this segway?

yeah I told myself I wasn't going to scum it but I did it once anyhow. Crystal Guardian for a mask piece :(

I pretty much went straight for mask pieces as quickly as I could and ignored hard stuff until I had a lot of health. almost all my close calls were early on before I had movement, health, and nail upgrades. for charms I just did fragile heart and fragile strength, along with whatever felt useful at the time.

What was she talking about here?

so i started playing this today and just finished fungal whatever(i think)?

I'm just constantly getting lost as to where to go next. am i missing something? the lack of guidance is killing me, and i don't want to look things up and get spoiled on it

>Heart of Wyrm. Heart of Root. Soul of Void.

Protip: She's a plant.

If you can't make mental notes, make physical ones.

Just mark up screenshots of the various maps with suspicious spots where you think you might need later abilities, unopened shortcuts, shops with remaining inventory, and collectibles you can't reach yet and slowly clear each map one by one.

The game doesn't really introduce vague directions about what you need to do until very late game, until then you're exploring to flush out your map and get stronger and you'll eventually be funneled where you need to go.

I wish I wasn't too lazy to shoop her bindings into a doctor scarf.

Where in the game is that line from? It sounds familiar, but I can't remember where it's said.

I think it's when you go in the Abyss the second time.

But yeah, if you were wondering why a shadowy bugmonster has the ability to eject thorny vines from its body, you're part plant.

It doesn't seem like it
youtu.be/xmQOQ2eaQMw?t=236
Eh, that's just a charm though. I mean, you can turn into a slug too but i don't think that means anything.

>Eh, that's just a charm though
You use the ability in the final fight whether or not you have the charm. It's how you bind and kill Radiance.

I figured they were just Void Tentacles, but they are rather thorny. I did just find this, but it could also just be referring to the Kingsoul

>Quick Focus+Mark of Pride+Quick Slash+Stalwart Shell
You can't brute force your way out of Fool Challenge and rely on quick heal. You just can't.

Once you get to that wave where there's spike floor and no platform for 5 wave straight, that will be the end of you.

Learn to use Charge Slash and Nail Master Glory.
Charge slash + lv 2 nail instantly 1 hit small critter and 2 hit everything else.

youtube.com/watch?v=hdOWbwdusvI

>You can't brute force your way out of Fool Challenge and rely on quick heal.
I did and I'm sorry but giving up i-frames for faster charge attacks isn't worth it when you don't have an up or a down charge attack and can get boxed in easily depending on how enemies float so you have no angle of charged attack.

I'd rather get hit less than kill faster on that section even though killing faster may lead to me getting hit less.

Pogos are safer than charge attacks, stay on top of everything.

You don't need i-frame if you never get hit.

Charge attack hit box is huge. It's exactly as big as the sprite. You hit a whole column in front of and above you,

With Nail Master Glory you can release Charge Attack almost instantly and do triple damage for the same time it took for 1 attack.

...

I'm not saying never use charge attacks, but the stage most people die on is the armored bobble part and they spread out quickly, attack on the diagonals, and don't die instantly to a charge attack. Systematically taking them on from directly above one at a time is a lot safer than trying to slide down to line up a charge attack.

Can intelligence exist without sentience?
And what's the point then?

Defenitions man, defenitions.

Cats are quite intelligent and sentient, they are not however sapient, i.e they can't exercise wisdom and judgement not born of instinct. Which is the core issue.

Assuming you are talking about Radiance - we know, almost certainly, that moth were sapient when they were ruled by it. Why? Because a non sapient species can't have a species wide revolt. Unless you think Wyrm asspuled a change in their brain's biochemistry and archetecture allowing sapience.

Far more interesting question is exactly how Radiance affected creatures before it was imprisoned. And to be frank - we don't know. It seems unlikely to me that it's current manifestation - infection - is the same as it was in aeons past, but rather a perversion in it's attempt to subvert the seals and reinforce it's authority/power. But was the prior influence as strong, unilateral and oppressive? Who the hell knows.

when is hollow knight coming to switch?

google says feb 24 but that seems like a lie

So what if the bugs in Hallownest were actually intelligent but not sapient? They'd build architecture like ants or bees, but never developed a culture or money.
So there comes the king and just fucks it up.

There is no reason to think that bugs weren't sapient and plenty evidence to the contrary. Not the least of which is the fact that again, if King was so powerful he could bestow sapience on every bug in HN, radiance would look like party chimp by comparsion.

how the hell do i get isma's tear?

i'm at the sign that says prove your honor in combat etc but fucking how?

>but fucking how?
You need to explore the other part of sewers.

Where you will find the defender who signed on that plaque. If you have already done so, you missed the lever in the boss room.

thanks

i missed the lever, like an asshole
