I just want some decent weapons for my pure faith cleric without lightning on them. Especially since everything in this DLC seems to be almost immune to lightning damage.

If you have the spare equip load, +9 (or +10 if you have a spare slab) yourself a Black Iron Greatshield and infuse it with fire and you will take almost literally no damage whatsoever.
He does crazy stamina damage at higher game cycles though, so it's still risky.

It probably cures curse buildup but I've never used it for that purpose. It gets rid of hollowing but has no effect on sigils.

It works exactly like the Velka statue. You can use it to reverse Hollowing, reset NPC aggro and revive Spear of the Church.
