Reviving a dead general edition

Previous Thread: ??????

>What is a "Hot Hatch"?
A Hot Hatch is a manufacturer produced, performance oriented variant of a standard hatchback, designed for improved handling, increased top speed, acceleration and generally enhance the driving experience.

>Are all Hot Hatches FWD?
No. Whilst most Hot Hatches are FWD, some are AWD or even RWD.

>Isn't FWD shit?
No. Just because you can't get the arse out by stamping on the accelerator doesn't mean you can't have fun.

>Aren't Hot Hatches just for Europoors?
No; Hot Hatches have been a thing for the US since the 90s, took a dip in the mid 00s and are gaining momentum again.

Current gen Mazda3 isn't a hot hatch though.

Swift Sport is though.

>want an r50 mini
>they are literally shit

I didn't make that image.

Question for the Ford guys: do I have to take it to the dealer if I want to put on mountune shit? Because the dealer I bought it from seems to have no idea that mountune is a thing and it's gonna be a pain to educate them.

I know you didn't, some retard user made it a few months ago and he was rightfully called on his autism.

I still remember his tard rage over the Mazda3 being a run-of-the-mill econobox like it was yesterday.

I vaugely remember that now.

Should have gone with the polestar as the op pic.

If you want the warranty then it has to be installed by the dealer

I can't just take it to my mechanic, huh?.
Fuck.
Guess i'll have to educate those faggots.

Isn't toyota making a hot version of the yaris

Thinking about getting a 2015-16 Focus ST with some factory warranty left.

I've test drove one and fell in love with the car. I can't see myself getting something with less power...

Does anyone have some reliability anecdotes? It will be my first major car purchase and would like the car to last 200,000

Pretty sure it states that any ASE certified mechanic can install it and retain the warranty. But I haven't looked into it in a few years.

Ayy

>tfw haven't been on a scenic drive in a while

Ah, ok.
I'll look further into that.
Would much rather go to a shop than the stealership.

What does Veeky Forums think of the Scirocco?

FiST brother!

Not sold in the US so I don't really think much of it. Looks pretty good imo though

...

Where was this taken? I'm fairly jealous.

Blue Ridge Mountains

Double jealous now, used to live in western NC but had to move because the local economy was shit. Now i'm stuck in a city and wound so tight I got ulcers in my stomach

>Australia didn't get the amazing looking Type R last gen
>We get the new one that looks like it has downs syndrome

Am I /hothatch/?

*Not mine btw but picking one up next week

Getting the rears up on these were a massive pain.

>no low profile car jack
>current car jack lifts rear up about 1/4" shy of the height of the stands
>had to dig out the old hi-lift and lift it the rest of the way via the tow hitch

Goddamn cars are too low

Hey bros

hola amigo! Glad to see another person driving around one of the best cars on the market

Did you make those yourself? I don't have jack stands that fit under mine

I did. Had the front ramps for about three years now and made the rear stands a couple of months ago.

Used 2 x 12 pressure treated lumber. Heaviest vehicle I've had on them is my dad's Jeep Commander. Trust them way more than plastic or steel ramps.

Any speed3 goiyms here?

:)

tint n new pics soon hopefully.

Is that a hatch or is that like the fox that looks like a hatch but isn't really technically a hatch...

Dis hatch is so hot, even aliens admire!

any golf 7 R owner here ?
can you recommend the
car or would you buy something different if you had the chance ?

>$40k for a golf

Like the Focus RS you can get better value else where, but some people just gotta have it.

Who /superhatch/ here?

Unless your hatchback has more than 300 BHP and does 0 - 60 in less than 5 seconds, you can't join the /superhatch/ club.

Where's yours?

Maybe after I put a hybrid turbo in the Fiesta I'll be close to 300/300.

Who Abarth here?

Here.

Getting him tinted today but only 35% because North Carolina.

Any darker doesn't really look that great. NC fag as well, all the bitching about inspections here is insane. Just make sure to get it the same darkness all the way around.

>tfw I supposedly drive a hot hatch (MKV Golf, not GTI)
>every other person in a fast/nice car tries to race me on the freeway or at stoplights and I hate it and just want to enjoy my comfy ride and sometimes go a little fast when there's nobody else around on the road
Sometimes I think about getting rid of it so I can buy my cousin's truck, not gonna lie.

Yeah, with a supercharger on it. Sounds fun.

Bump. This thread is good in theory

Checking your trips

Some guy I share a parking lot with has a Speed3 that runs mid-12s. I guess that would require over 400HP right?

Planning on getting one later this week. Had any problems with yours that I should expect?

Anyone else going to the st octane academy in August?

where is it at? Also I bought my ST used, would I still be able to go?

>waiting in left turn lane to turn on green
>ferd fiesta coming up the road in opposite lane of traffic about to turn right
>guy has a fartcan exhaust and a [HOONIGAN] bumper sticker
>takes the corner at 2mph
seriously what the fuck was the point of you even buying a hot hatch you shithouse

stoctaneacademy.com/
It's in Utah.
You could go, you'd just have to pay.
It's only free for a year from the day of purchase from a dealer. I don't know if it's transferable if you picked it up in that timeframe.

Turbo + AWD + Manual + Hatched Back. Do I count?

>him

u wot m8?

I have 35% tint on an F150 and my first inspection really was a pain, requiring multiple trips to multiple shops.

First time I went the guy just looked at me and said don't bother because "I'll have to fail you for tint." Guy didn't even check it with a meter, but i didnt argue, just left. Second time, different shop, I pre warned the guy that my tint is legal. He took the car into the bay and began inspecting it. Came back 10min later and said "I can't pass you so I'm just gonna pull back out for you." I was pissed but didn't bitch.

I went back to the tent shop. Watched the guy meter it in front of me comfortably above the legal limit. The tint shop had to give me a recommendation of where to get my inspection. The Chrysler dealership less than 8 miles from my house.

So Tell me, how much hp does a car have to make to be considered "hot"? Or power/weight? Or 0-60? Or any other criteria? What makes a hatch hot instead of Just warm?

That's an SUV

Barely. It's a Fiat 500X with an inch or so of extra height.

>Be a pretty big/buff looking hispanic guy
>People always surprised i drive a mini cooper
>Im actually getting pussy with this fucking car

Pretty good

It's more power/weight and 0-60.

Just got it a couple weeks ago, hell of a difference from my explorer and chevy II

Anyone got the cabrio or could comment on it?
>inb4 not a hatch

Why did you guys want this over say a FiST or Speed3?

Post a picture of the plate covering half of your intercooler

Yeah can confirm, any ASE can do it

Florida doesn't require front plates

FiST is unreliable American trash, Mazda only exists as an abused/used car.

>Fiat
>Not unreliable trash
Pick one

all you fgts make me sick

undisputed king of budget shitbox hot hatches coming through

But beautiful Italian trash will always be cooler than bland American trash.

*blocks your path*

>fiat 500
>beautiful
pick one

Hi, friend
Had my speed for ~ 6 months now, has intake and exhaust, not sure what to do to it this summer, I'm thinking accessport and make the exhaust louder ( muffler and/or resonator delete) any suggestions?

My car is a total bro.

A tinted bro now.

Have any of you ST guys disconnected the sound symposer? It's not as fake as engine noise through, speakers, but I'm still not sure I like it.

>supreme gas cap

real niBBas wear colgate you mark ass motherfuk

albert biermanns baby
True god machine

Without additional mods, removing the sound symposer just makes the car sound like a run of the mill 4 cylinder shitbox.

Italian memes mostly

Because daddy DeMuro encouraged us to try it.

Also this sweet sweet aftermarket shifter.

Not the guy you were talking to, but I've got a first gen speed. You need to get an oil catch can and an upgraded high pressure fuel pump if you haven't already. The catch can is strongly recommended, the fuel pump is absolutely necessary.

GTA cred.

w2c dat 1:1 colgate fresh

I have a full Mountune MR230 kit and the exhaust sounds great. Not sure how the engine sounds since the symposer hides all the noise.

>hides
amplifies*

nah I haven't removed it, I don't really care to since it doesn't bother me at all, plus until I upgrade my exhaust I'd rather hear something. Plus I'm not gonna pay 40$ just to plug a hole.

>Owns car brand that's memed as "Fix It Again Tony"
>Talking about Ford's reliability

mfw

>Found On Road Dead
>not even aesthetically perfect to make up for it

FiFofags are the worst. Go away with you basic bitch cars.

>aesthetically perfect

ur Abarth is a shittier Previa egg van, go die in a fire

Have any of you guys had any real problems with your 500s? I know the memes but euros seem to like them quite a bit.

Not coming to the U.S. of A.

Nah, not really worth the time and effort. Though it may improve the sound of my exhaust if I did. No need for the engine noise kazoo anymore.

It can be done for $5 in 5 minutes

Nah, I like it, makes the engine sound like it's doing something.

Cant find a stupid question thread

I was told my fiesta St needs a brand new engine, feelsbadman

Obviously being an idiot i won't be doing it myself, but is it really just as simple as buying another engine? Will there be loads of extras I'd need it buy as well? Annoyingly apparently there aren't any alternatives

Can't give you an answer without more info on why you need a replacement.

Like I said, I don't want to spend the time or effort, regardless of how easy and possible it is with off the shelf parts.

I hope this makes sense

Basically it's been burning alot of oil, I have to top up every few weeks. You can smell it and lots of smoke occasionally comes out the exhaust

I've taken it to a few people and they said it's either the piston rings, or the valve seals(I think they're called?)

After taking it apart and doing some tests, sadly he said it's both. Even the valves need replacing. All of this so far is coming up to like 1k+

Weirdly, he said he can't actually just replace the piston rings on the 2005 model, they're connected to something (maybe the pistons I guess i dunno) but apparently on this engine you can't just take them off and replace them

I actually phoned Ford to check if he wasn't talking shit and they said yeh its worth just buying a second hand engine

Oh, it's a 2005 Fiesta ST. I thought you were referring to a 2015. It may be cheaper long-term to just buy a new-er car, but if you're dead set on keeping your current car it sounds like an engine replacement is the way to go.

cute car :3

going to try and put my badges on this weekend since the owner before me had them removed.

For the price, you just get so much car. And as weird as it is, I try to get something new/different every time I get a new car. This one seemed like an oddball that I didn't even consider until it sort of showed up on the list in one of those car finder websites. If I were to have only one car, I'd have probably gone for a four door FoST, but since it's my third and fun car, felt like a good choice.

I love the color of yours, and about those badges, leave them off! Body looks so clean without the 20 abarth badges all over it. They really did plaster the little thing with the logo anywhere they could.

Is that what you have to do for a short throw? The whole assembly?

Henlo

I've had mine for less than a month, so cant say yet. If you're curious before buying do what I did and just search common problems in a fiat forum or just google, It'll give you a decent idea of what to expect.
