/mmog/ - MMO General

LIVE AFTER DED edition:

This general is for discussing new, old, and upcoming MMOs, or MMOs with populations that are too small to sustain their own generals. If you are on one of these forgotten/niche games, looking for a guild, or friends, or just want to know the state of the game, ask here!

MOs with documented MMO aspects are also welcome here, such as games like Diablo, ARK, and Dark and Light.

Card games like Elder Scrolls Legends, Krosmaga, Duelyst and Faeria are also welcome to discuss here.

Our most discussed games are Mabinogi and Wakfu. We have a game of the week that we all try to play together!

We currently have a guild on Wakfu (Remington) and Archeage (Reckoning) ask for an invitation on this general!

Reminder to report and ignore shitposting.

Yeah, I have a Cloud Knight. They can do decent damage, and yes, his positioning skills take a lot to get use to, but he compensates everything by having some really nice buffs. The movement buff gives a very high % of crit chance, and the range buffs gives a lot of distance mastery. His teleport shot is very useful as well, but you really need to know how the map and enemy works to be able to fully use it. One of his skills lowers all the cost of his active spells by 1.

Hopefully we'll have less drama this time and more activity. Last thread reached page 10 way too many times.

Why aren't modded MMORPGs more common? Or I guess 'allowed addons/plugins' more specifically.

what's ankama official position about multiboxing?
i'm trying to recover both of my old ass accounts from wakfu asia's phaeris time and while one logged in easily, the other refuses to log in and obviously i can't remember for shit what info i used for it.

am i totally fucked?

Wildstar gets a lot of shit, and I will shit all over it's place, but it had a fantastic mod and plugin interface. It was so easy to install and play. Shame the game died.

Same goes for Firefall, but more than anything, it was thanks to the modders themselves. They were extremely useful when thumpting and navigating the map, since they gave you a shitton of quality of life improvements.

Man, I miss Firefall. It was one of the most uniques MMO's out there. They completly butchered on the last updates, starting with no being able to change frames on the go. That was MURDER.

Try to recover password user? The Ankama policy about multi is "is fine as long as you don't talk about it."

>Try to recover password user?
the password i had in my old ass email isn't working, at the secret question shows up in french and i don't remember ever writing anything there, and trying the obvious answer to the translated french question isn't working either.

Send a ticket from the account that works talking about it. If you think is too risky, make a new one and send it from there. If everything fails, don't worry too much, since Phaeris is pretty much a ghost town. If you wish to start all over again, go to Remington; they are going to merge Phaeris and Nox into it, so you should have fun with a fresh start waiting for your items to come on December.

i just want to log into that account so it isn't destroyed due to the 2 year inactivity warning.

also the one that did enter wouldn't let me log into phaeris either way, and i tried to start the 'migration' process but they left me hanging for a couple of days now.

i'd like to not start from scratch but it's proving to be quite the difficult task.

Monday sucks, I usually play MMO's with some dumb american series on the background. This is how I got to watch Arrow and Flash, and these dumb series are on hiatus for a whole month. No idea how to pass time now.

Anyone wanna try gloria victis? Let's kill some players together

Way too many graphics for my 5 year old rig mate. Sorry.

ded already

Why is wakfu and card games back in the OP? Who the fuck made this shitty OP? Go the fuck back to your wakfu general.

Firefall died when they lowered the amount of events on the open world. People were leveling too fast and instead of nerfing the xp rewards, they nerfed the spawn rate of events.
It was lively as fuck before that and then the open world suddenly died and people were standing around doing fucking nothing because nothing was spawning.
Everything went downhill after that. Especially when they nerfed thumping too. Had potential but developers were retarded.

The Wakfu general died user, there wasn't enough people to sustain it. Also, that's Dofus.

The forums are a complete disaster. They post porn and hate speech and no one does anything to erase it. Is incredibly sad. The game had a HUGE scope. So many millions of dollars wasted.

I had so many good memories on it...

My favorite parts of the game were riding around in my bike. They nailed that down perfectly.
Too bad the rest of the game had to go to shit because the devs were nofunallowed.

I member the bike/vehicle update. That was HYPE, the controls were so much better after. I had that beautiful red bike for closed beta testers, it was so pretty.

MAN, I miss that game. Goddamn you R5 and your chinese overlords, GODDAMN YOU.

>Goddamn you R5 and your chinese overlords, GODDAMN YOU.
Firefall, literally wasted potential: the epitome. Really is a crying shame. I had high hopes for it and was really enjoying it.
Every map was a battlefield of constant events going on until they nerfed the spawn rate. That one single change drove people away from the game in spades.

They could of also released the game out of beta sooner so the playerbase wasn't so fucking fracturered. They could of also not reworked the entire fucking game every 6 months. I tried it 3-4 times and every time there were major system changes. Turns out that is bad for building a playerbase. I would love to know how much money they lost on that game.

Yes, it was due to those things too but the first major thing that started dropping players was the open world event spawn rate nerfs. Player numbers just kept dropping after that.
I was playing through the entire time daily from when the game was very lively down to the dead piece of shit it became before I couldn't take it anymore and just quit.

I watched their crappy stream every week. I even enjoyed it sometimes. So fucking sad.

>tfw Firefall's decline story is going to be nothing compared to Star Citizen's

Holyfuck gloria victis only $5 on my shithole country

Was gonna wait for the combat update but I'll buy it soon. Kinda busy this week.

Can we talk about kingdom of Loathing here?

Firefall was my dream MMO
>open world
>shooter
>futuristic

Only the division come close. On another note, I heard destiny 2 will come to pc, does that game have open world or hub based?

I would say sure, but I doubt anyone is playing it around here. Is browser, right?

Why do you hate Shiny Chariot guild in wakfu?

Is just (was?) Jim and this other guy that was mad cause no one wanted to join his guild instead. Just ignore them. Shiny Chariot is still recruiting people; hopefully we will not have as much drama from now on.

I'm fine with wakfu but fuck card game, this is mmog

Yeah.

>Only the division come close
The division was pretty fun playing through everything pre-raid with a buddy. pic related was my waifu.

whatever happened to this game in general? It was ultra-hyped, and then it suddenly vanished from everyone memories.

Your waifu looks like shit.

The game is doing fine but not really popular now

This one is my waifu

I stopped playing because after one good clear of everything pre-raid I was done torturing my eyes and my friend stopped playing it. I'm guessing that content got repetitive until a general was unsustainable.

pls don't bully my toaster-fu

MMO with good summoner class that bases its entire/majority of damage/defensive on summons?

Aion

DFO has a good summoner class too.

Is it still active? Last I heard its a dying game.

Wakfu, not kidding. Osamodas is damn fun to play.

I'm not a furry though.

Yeah, they still update it. NA server fall behind 5 months

>friend convinces me to download and play Devilian with him
>game is dead as fuck

I'd actually give it a fair shot, but damn. There is literally no information or discussion. I'm surprised the 1 server is still running.

Man My.com was late in bringing the servers down.

they were never on time

ikr, right when people are relaxing and enjoying themselves, they bring it down

In the middle of a mentor session, too.

They were decently on time the past couple maintenance. Mostly, anyway.

Where did the Wakfuck thread go?
Are we back here again?

Yes

How is that autism going guys?

Mind if I spin a few vague mmo ideas? I'm not sure where else might be a good idea to talk about some of them.

Let's say you made an MMORPG where players always fight their own dedicated enemy when playing in a party.

For example, when playing solo, you fight one monster. When you play in a party, the number of monsters scales up, and each monster attacks a specific member of the party.

When fighting a boss, let's say that the fight is split up between the boss and his minion army and your group, or perhaps certain weak spots of a giant enemy are targeted by your group individually.

Now let's say you increase the amount of loot you get depending on how many players are in the group to encourage group play.

Let's say that players have both abilities they can use in their own attack space, as well as global abilities they can cast on other players in their party. Global spells are given to a player as an optional limited time use ability which they can use when they choose until some condition is met (such as a cooldown, or number of uses).

This way, players are responsible for their own fights but can still support fellow party members. Perhaps the global abilities could combo with each other or with abilities inside the player combat space to make things interesting.

You could do various things regarding victory conditions, like make it so that you win if a certain number of people in the party win their encounters. You could also scale difficulty per player combat instance, so players looking for different levels of challenge could play together.

Finally, you could scale encounters to large sizes (lot's of players and enemies) without turning the fight into a clusterfuck of spell effects and CC and whatnot. Could this work as a game concept, or would people feel too disconnected from each other?

I'm thinking such a game would need to offer the ability to spectate allies, and to have a tactical overview of the battle you could watch as well.

Sounds like PSO2

more players more enemies and more boss

I didn't play PSO2 enough to say for sure, but is the mechanic you've mentioned similar to dynamic event scaling in guild wars 2, where events spawn more and bigger monsters depending on how many players are present?

I guess the scaling idea is similar to that in a sense. Part of what I'm trying to imagine is whether this would be a good way of managing latency - effectively, I'm thinking each player would basically be in there own instance, which an awareness of the overall battle being provided by the user interface, instead of placing all of the monsters and players and spells/attacks in one crowded instance.

Actually, I'm kind of wondering if this has already been done in a mud or something, since it seems like a basic sort of concept. Maybe someone tried something already and scrapped it, or maybe there's a game already out there I could take a look at that's doing something similar right now.

I'm not sure if it would qualify as an MMO? Since players can interact with each other but wouldn't be side by side with each other in an active game world other than through the overmap or some other means.

Yes, multiparty area in PSO2 works that way. Each player will get the own objective but if they're nearby it will be shared.

revo server is up

Revelation is ok game, but its company is nexon-tier pile of shit

What happened to the Revelation Online general?

Last I checked it fell to Brazilians.

it died

More like people have been bullied out of the thread to come here instead.

What do you guys think of MapleStory?

I'm playing MapleRoyals, a v62 oldschool private server.
It had a pretty big population (600~1000 players on at all times)

Now it's going through an update which will take a while.

I also used to play Dofus, but that game is dead.
Leeching and multi-accounting ruined it.

Quit when Big Bang happened.
I didn't like what they did with the mage's ultimates.

>Can I tell you something?
He's going to confess his love for you

Have a good day.

What's leeching in Dofus?

You should get in a private server then. Most of them are pre-big bang with the original 5 classes:
>Warrior
>Archer
>Magician
>Thief
>Pirate

youtube.com/watch?v=3DEkF2uvPoc
The power of nostalgia compels you!

Basically just joining high level players and leeching EXP from their fights. You do nothing. Free EXP until level 100+.

Leeching has ruined low level content, people just blaze through it. There's no partying for dungeons or having comfy adventures together anymore.

>leeching
Oh okay. I had something similar happen in Wakfu yesterday. Some high level wouldn't leave me alone until I let him "help" me through two levels or so.

I had lots of fun doing a two dungeons with other level ~30s yesterday. Hoolahoopiwi and some tree dungeon.
Our party comp was Sacrier, Eniripsa, Fogger, and a Elitrope.

I tried playing Royals actually. But I do miss the other stuff they added, like the teleports and quests and bosses and stuff.

The truth is that Ankama doesn't give much of a shit about its player base, let alone the English community (it's foremost a French company).

The fact they allow, and even encourage, multiaccounting/multiboxing shows how they care more about subscription $$$money$$$ than the quality of the game.

People treat Dofus (and its bound to happen to Wakfu) like a single player game. They create multiple characters and play them all at once. This discourages actual MMO interaction and doing shit together.

It seems like the golden age of MMOs in general is 2004~2009.

The Hero system was a mistake as well.

>tfw can't contain my anger

I feel like I might be a threat to society, should I just kill myself. Do you guys ever get super angry? Only happens with online games, never really got mad at single player games. And I'm talking slam the desk so hard your PC gets a blue screen mad.

Galatians 5:22

No but I knew a guy who did and he threw his macbook across the room while playing League. The Skype call ended and he never rejoined the match.

No thanks.

Well, league of babies is the most cancerous multiplayer game in the history of the universe, so I can somewhat justify it. And maybe he didn't like macs.

Not giving free/paid character transfers as soon as remi and nox went free to play was THE mistake, now you have a bunch of rejects on phaeris too attached to their virtual stuff (like me) waiting for a transfer that might or might not even come within the next 12 months slowly giving up on the game again rather than flourishing on a server with real people.

No pinoys and strayans aren't real people.

The game not being f2p at the beginning was the mistake desu

This is the spinoff Academic, the Ray Mechanic.

>getting mad over vidya james
maybe learn to control your emotions user

How do you deal with the issue?

What issue?

Yeah I'm on a similar situation, busy week. But in the event someone plays, we should drop our IGN and the faction. Personally I prefer the midlanders lol but I believe you can change faction on game just by killing guards or something.

Apparently ismirs have an over population from what I read so I'm probably going midlanders when I start.

How do I stop being a social retard in MMOs?

I tried jumping in a conversation in the world chat but everyone goes silent afterwards.

>I tried jumping in a conversation in the world chat but everyone goes silent afterwards.
Just don't stop. Evantually someone will reply. Of course don't spam either.

>being the convo killer
I'm sorry user, there is no help.

>world chat talking about their anime
>flows into manga and doujin
>thats when i jump in
>ask who their favorite shota artists are
Where do I go after that?

Tell them you like boku no pico.

haha the absolute madman

Is albion online fun?

I like PvP and character progression

>I like PvP and character progression
Then no. Albion is a PvE game.

I like Katou Yun

Just stop treating it as if you're jumping into a game of double dutch. Just state your opinion bitch and keep it moving.

There are no good free PvP MMOs.

Stop caring so much about stupid shit like this

I'd honestly rather play the current maplestory (only the korean/jap versions though) rather than play the old ones.
I mean the modern game isn't as good, but holy shit is the private server community always fucking trash.

Also isn't mapleroyals permanently dead? last time I tried joining they fucked everything to hell and back because they jumped to a new source.

Nice trips. It does have character progression but without character levels. You level up your skills which can be combat skills (v.gr. using swords or staffs) , crafting skills and gathering skills.

I believe it's fun but since it's getting a wipe on June I don't want to play that much.
Albion is mostly PvP with full loot in red and black zones.
Albion is not free.

Current MS lags like a bitch though. It's probably the code, it's poorly written.
