Do you heel toe? Do you double-clutch?

I double-heel toe

granny shifting, not double clutching like you should

I just rev-match, full foot. My pedals aren't set up properly for h&t, and either way, it's not very compatible with everyday driving.

I double clutch and rev match, but I also clutchless shift for the hell of it.

I like to think it cancels itself out.

I might double clutch 1st to 2nd, I don't like having to ride the clutch to get a smooth take off.

I double clutch all downshifts and I heel toe sometimes so yes. Double clutch heel toe downshifts, I'm the king of autists

>tfw too tall to heel toe in my miata

Driving has always been a manlet activity.

double declutching is pure autism unless you have a very old car or your synchros are otherwise fucked.
Heel-and-toe'ing is just a quicker way of rev-matching, the pedals in my car are very poorly placed for it desu

>buy pedal spacers to make heel-toe possible
>never do it anyway

I'll do in video games or on the tracl, but never during daily driving. Just makes me look like a boyracer douche who can't brake or revmatch properly if I screw it up

/dbt/ here, what is double clutching?

something you should do rather than granny shifting

clutch in>neutral>clutch out>clutch in>into gear>clutch out
used to be necessary in cars before synchromesh gearboxes existed, but that's at least 50 years ago

Why would this even be a habit unless you started driving in the era when this was necessary? It sounds awful

youtube.com/watch?v=pB-bN-RkJLM

YOU NEVER HAD ME

>you almost blew up the welds on your intake

My car rev-matches for me (it's not an automatic).

In modern cars there's no point to double clutching unless you're skipping gears. But it does make you feel cool. I think both heel-toeing and double clutching are vital skills to have when driving. I don't double clutch when I drive unless I feel like it or have a need, but I do rev-match and heel-toe.

I think it's necessary to know how to heel-toe in order to be in complete control of your car

370z?

nice trips

You have a bad syncro in your tranny and your trying to not grind gears. Its also for akipping gears or if you have to downshift into first and your car locks you out

I don't heel toe. I don't see a use for it besides stopping from slipping on a hill. Maybe this technique could be useful for me if I ever needed to parallel park on a downhill slope, having to reverse uphill. But that's only because the reverse gear doesn't have enough leverage to keep you stationary on a very steep slope with just the clutch.

When I downshift I rev match, however.

What's the point of double clutching?

>clutch in>neutral>clutch out>clutch in>into gear>clutch out
>used to be necessary in cars before synchromesh gearboxes existed, but that's at least 50 years ago

but there is no reason to do this

It's technically still necessary if you drive a semi but I doubt there are any truckers on cartoon porn discussion boards.

something like this, clutch is too heavy to double-clutch unfortunately.

clutchless shifting wrecks the syncro, it's a lot worse than standard clutch shifting

>clutch is too heavy to double-clutch unfortunately.

yes cause they're fun to do.

can't left foot brake cause steering wheels in the way

You're an autistic memelord if you double clutch a synchronised transmission in a car. Synchro rings will outlive the rest of your car unless you try to shift without using the clutch.

You're also an autistic memelord if you heel toe in normal traffic. It's only really needed when driving near the limit where a jerk through the driveshaft could unsettle the rear end. You shouldn't ever be at that point outside of a track. I can't even reach the gas with my heel unless the brake is fully applied.

how about you go fuck yourself and I keep doing whatever I want?

Woah, ITT dubs get defensive with anons who DD manuals and don't downhill on Akina

>get in friends car
>not used to pedal spacing or clutch feel
>stab wildly at the pedals with feet searching for them
>look over at him

>clutchless shifting wrecks the syncro
well it does if your retarded and cant into matching speed

>Heel-toe
Pretty hard to on my car, can't reach both pedals with my feet, so no.
>Double-clutch
Nah, no reason to do so normally. Some older trucks that I drive have fucked up gearboxes so with them I do it.

You do realize you'd need to match the 4 digits RPM perfectly or it'll grind the hell out of your syncros. You're not gonna feel or notice it as long as the syncro works, even if you're off by a hundred RPM. You'll only notice you've been wearing it out once it stops working.

Always double clutch when going from 1st to reverse or vice versa to make it easier. Sometimes double clutch from 2nd to 1st too.
Can't heel and toe in my car cos I'm too tall/feet too big.
Rev match when exiting motorways/dual carriageways when I'm going 70-stop. I see it as good practice for when it's real heavy rain or snowing so I don't lose the back end in those conditions.

>heel toe
always
>double cluth
Only when shifting in 1st gear, since it would requir force if I don´t.

>Sometimes double clutch from 2nd to 1st
I've never shift from 2nd to 1st, or from any gear to 1st for that matter.
I only ever use 1st gear after coming to a stop, and when I stop I always shift to neutral to relax my left leg and throwout bearing.

no, not necessary for normal driving. I try to rev-match some downshifts though in an attempt to make them smoother and because it feels cool

I can't heel-toe, even if I only wear 9.5 my feet are too big

That's called being fat or inflexibility

>fat people have large feet
>normal people have small feet

>Veeky Forums logic

I have a BMI of 20 and wear shoes size 12.5

>little babby asian girl feet
>too big

Are you fucking retarded? What I said directly contradicts whatever you're trying to imply in your reply.

Veeky Forums has all types, huh? Don't breed for the sake of humanity, you fucking idiot.

I'm real thin but I'm tall as fuck the dash always blocks my knee

Cars are made for people under 170cm and with tiny feet though

This. I have size 13 feet and when i try to put my foot in the position of OP the end of my shoe hits the dash and my heel hits the inside of the footwell. I would need to replace the pedals on my car with a custom job to make it work.

Cars aren't designed with heel toe shifting in mind, which is why big feet makes it easier, not harder

Yep, dad is in the same situation and he told me to toe-heel to get the job done

Might give it a try

I just can't there's not enough room for me

Nonsense, you are just doing it wrong. There's no reason to rotate your foot at all, use the right edge of your foot on the gas and left edge on the brake like in my pic.

Post feet

Well then that's not heel-toe that's just toe-toe

I'm a guy wtf

>>feet are too big
>tha's called being fat
Kill yourself.

This entire thread is fucking autism.
All you kids say
>My pedals aren't set up for it
>My feet are too big
>I'm too tall
>My clutch is too heavy
>I double clutch on upshifts
>Modern cars don't benefit from double clutching!
>Heel toeing is too hard in traffic

You're all fucking soft cocks.
There is a learning curve. Fucking learn it.
I double clutch all 3rd to 2nd shifts. I heel toe at every stop at least one gear, more if I am presuming a light change or a turn.
I have never been in a car that you can't heel toe in, yes heel toeing is easier at race car speeds because it takes less motor skills, but heel toeing is possible for anyone in any car at any speed.
And the kid who claims his clutch is too heavy fuck off with your sissy shit.

Too bad you don't own a manual car, nice fantasy though Ethan :)

About double clutching:

Why can't you just rev up the engine with the clutch depressed?

Sorry I am a complete noob to this.

I simplyfy it a bit:
There is one shaft from the engine, there is one shaft in the gearbox and there is one shaft from the wheels.
If you just spin up the engine, you´ll spin up one shaft.
If you doubbleclutch you spin up the shaft in the gearbox as well.

because then the engine is disconnected from the transmission and will not accelerate the transmission input, which is the point of double clutching.

Ohhh, I see now.

Why not just rev the engine to match the speed the wheels are turning in the next gear?

That is what doubleclucthing and heel-toe are for...

Nah, I mean just push the clutch in once and hold the gas at whatever rev the transmission/wheels are spinning at.

This is a stupid question, I know it, I'm sorry.

You usually do that while braking, not while accelerating...

Exactly.

While accelerating the rpm is dropping from high in a low gear, to low in a higher gear.

So you just change gears fast enough to catch the RPM as it falls into the right point. What's the need for declutching and heel toe?

That is used when when you downshift...

That's called normal rev matching. Double clutch is just reducing wear on your synchromesh.

Oh, ok then. I already do that. Cool beans!

Thanks for the help guys!

Except I own 4 manual cars.

This is me

Get a smaller steering wheel, and a lower seat or just move the stock seat back and the back of the seat forward. I'm 6'1 heel toe my miata fine

No you don't. Bread on clutch pedal.

To the thread who is not familiar with this poster we of course already know that he will dodge this simple request, because he does not own a manual car. Get ready for some clever excuses

>mfw I brake with my right foot (on my POV) and sometimes I have trouble coordinating my physical actions, especially on curves, if I need to change gear I pretty much can't because autism

You should never change gear in a corner, upsets the car's balance tremendously.

>never change gear in a corner
Fucking benchracers and boyracers who think roads are racetracks. I downshift mid-corner all the time because some dimwit just keeps slowing all the way down, even past the "apex".

Even when you're not going fast it's a bad idea to upset a cars balance.

Driving fast enough (or bad enough) that shifting in a corner would upset the balance noticeably is a bad idea, unless you're on the track.

Well, by curves I basically meant roundabouts where sometimes you have to downshift or just slip in the next gear, or it's a short one where the gear you previously came in won't hold up.

Always shift into 2nd before entering a roundabout, unless you need 1st to rip a mad dorifto all the way round, then you shift into 1st, but I seriously hope that isn't the case.

>Not being a speedy speed boy

git gud

>>Not being a speedy speed boy
>git gud
Retards like you are the reason we don't get to have fun on public roads.

On the roundabout I routinely use to get home and with my 1.0L shitbox, I have to shift into third since when it hits 30 km/h the engine already starts whirring demanding the next gear, and it holds up well in third while i'm in it.

My car isn't exactly the prime of technology - after 50 km/h you have to put 4th gear.

I only go fastly on onramps and offramps. I'm also a top ten autocrosser in my state so like to think I have some skill

Shut the fuck up, I wouldn't even give a singular fuck if you were the second coming of Ayrton Senna. Behave your boyracer ass on public roads and you won't spin out from shifting mid-corner.

Or I could not shift mid corner like a scrub and never spin out ever

I bet you're one of the guys who always heel-toes every time he slows down and double clutches and revmatches to reduce wear on his transmission and clutch, am I right?

Yes you are.

You don't ?

I have small feet. I heel-toe on downshifts. Double clutching is stupid unless you have an unsynchronized transmission or the sychros are totally shot

Haven't learned to heel toe yet, But I'm learning to double clutch pretty successfully.

Happy m8?

Foamectamy. Best thing to do to a miata seat to fit you. There are guides on the forums.

>so ashamed of his car he tries to blur it
>clearly some $1200 pos from the 90s

I wear 8½ and I'm 6’2. I feel your pain.

I wear 11s just buy shoes that aren't boots and or git gud

>Implying you don't like $1200 shit boxes from the 90's.
I have maintained an ehtnisasim for 80's and 90's cars on here for nearly a decade. And you think I'd be driving something new?
PS that's from the 80's.

That's not bread also looks shopped

Clutchless downshifting is 100x easier and faster.

Well that's how you do it retard

Are you retarded

how come the two manual cars I own have a gas pedal smaller than the break and clutch pedals, I can't heel toe with that
