There's a pagan, erik the strange, in sweden.

Hardråde was the last viking, so you need to mod the game if you want to create an alternate history. If you want raiding you need to mod, that is. If you just want to start as a norse pagan you can still do so in 1066, even create your own character if you want.

I have that and some other performance mods but decided to keep india this game, had plague and disease on deadly to make up for that but it clearly didn't do a good enough job.

until now.
gonna turn india off next game but for now I've given plague free reign to rip and tear as much as it wants to for a while.

Diseases on deadly won't really help as much as removing india

Well, I certainly got what I asked for. Not even 3 years in and 22 epidemics have merged to create super death.

I'd remove India, Mali, Iceland, Abyssinia and much of the steppes to the east. Along with that there are some other performance tweaks you can do, though I'm not sure how much they impact the game.

under engine in defines.lua you can set the day interval for events to be checked, default is 20, 50 for courtiers, which can be turned off entirely, but that'll fuck with unlanded courtiers on your councils since the missions won't fire. There also used to be a line about 'normal' population in here but it seems they removed it in the M&M patch

Don't think you can usurp your liege as a lower ranking vassals, usurp another ducal title and then , when equal in rank, come back to your former liege's title.
