Neither do I, so I really can't say, but at least the style of Second Stage is closer to the first than the later stages. In Fourth and or Fifth, the Takahashi brothers look like ayy lmaos. On that note, Fourth Stage and onward are trash, so stop at Third at the latest.

PS: After checking, I'm pretty certain you were on episode 2.

This can be seen in other series that change animation studios from one season to the next or when a lot of time passes inbetween.

With Initial D, you get both. Every stage was produced by a different studio except for Fifth and Final, and Fourth and Fifth stage came out three or more years than the predecessors. Here's a chart of Ryousuke's changes in appearance over the different stages. He probably suffered the most out of all the characters.

in addition initial d was being produced during the period that studios were switching to digital masters & inking instead of the cel xeroxing process, so the whole colorspace and look of the lines changes as they switch (although even in 1st stage some shots were partially digitally mastered at first, when they had to mix 2d & 3d elements in the same frame)

I think his hair looked a little bit darker in Third Stage, but I don't know of any differences in color otherwise.
