The X300 is probably one of the most reliable luxury cars you can buy, the engine and transmission are bombproof. The Ford-era was probably Jaguar's best period, they sorted most of the rust problems and reliability but without the retarded overly technical shit of the X350 onwards.

Jags in particular are horrible with head gaskets, and it's not uncommon for the block itself to crack. Take it to the shop and ask for an engine inspection. Those cars are fucking awful to work on on your own.
