Hey pg, I've never played a persona game before but a lot of my friends won't shut up about this and are making me interested. I've played JRPGs before and I like those a lot, but would I need to play any of the previous games prior to this one?

Nope, they're disconnected aside from a few passing references with no impact on the game.

No. P5 is totally standalone from the other games save for a few minor references. It's the easiest entry to jump in with by far too.

Fusing Arcana X with Arcana Y will always get you a Persona of Arcana Z. The level then decides which is the Persona of that Arcana you'll get, though I don't know the formula by heart.

Then there's triangle or more fusions. With those Arcana doesn't really matter at all.

Can you save and reload the bath house on rainy days so you always get favorable results or is it set in stone?

Basically, there is a set of combinations for each of the arcana. Fusing those two combinations will net you a Persona of the resulting arcana. The game will then average out the levels of those two Persona and find the closest one to it from the list of Personas for that arcana, and that's your result.
It's way too much effort to bother with, but that's the process.
Just experiment and find what seems viable, and make sure to compensate for whatever elements your party members won't cover.

His entire storyline revolves around him being jealous that he isn't a part of the group and then coming to terms with that, it wouldn't make any sense for him to be a party member like that.
