I was 35-40 hours into the game but today when I trie to start the game I get a "Selected data contains DLC you don't own" message and It wont let me fucking play a game I spent 90 bucks on.

If you mean just the persona thing, you get more points hanging out with someone if you have a persona thats the same arcana. It doesn't matter what persona as long as the arcana matches.
