No, not at all. Most fans of the series like Eggman, and while this may or may not be as popular an opinion, I also really like some of the more real-life inspired locations like Rooftop Run or a couple other stages from Unleashed. I do think that "elements reminiscent of real world shit" are not universally a good thing, however. As themes for different settings I think they can be great, but as active forces shaping the story they can get bad. For example, while I understand the need for GUN as another source of robotic enemies separate from Eggman, I think that making them a violent and dark government sort of agency is unnecessary and out of tone of the series.

So, what are the odds that Sonic 2 Beta's Hidden Palace Zone is referenced in some way in the upcoming Sonic Mania game?
Also, I can't believe they combined the two HPZs in the Sonic Universe manga.
It was already "completed" in the Sonic 2 remaster, so I don't know how heavily they'd reference it.
I think it's hilarious how the rebooted comic does sort of explain a lot of the odder things about Sonic's game continuity to some extent (the regions, origin of the Red Star Rings, Eggman's rise to power) yet the one thing it would never be able to explain is why the hell there's tiny animals and then Sonics. Old continuity said the tiny animals were unmutated or some shit, but I can't see them ever offering an explanation that makes sense without delving back into the post-apocalyptic stuff.

Why do humans exist in the same world as chimpanzees and gorillas? They simply branched off in their evolution. No other explanation is needed.
Not him but that raises so many questions if it's true. Mobini display a level of sapience that no animal on Earth possesses. We treat chimpanzees and gorillas as precious factions of nature, things put on display at a zoo for their species's protection. We are still debating to this day about different facets about the evolution of our species.
And yet Sally doesn't seem to care that there are tiny chipmunks running around and vice-versa. If chimpanzees and gorillas had the level of self-awareness that they have, we would have a Planet Of The Apes situation.
You'll look at this and scream "autism" or wonder why I'm looking too deep into a children's comic, but these are the types of logistics problems your established fictional world raises when it has shit like that in it.

In Sonic's case it's already explained that all hedgehogs can run fast and that Sonic is just the Usain Bolt of them all. In preboot, mongooses could get super speed too.

Should be noted that Zelda was not created with a timeline in mind until enough autistic neckbeards reeeee'd hard enough to retcon a heavily slapped-together "timeline" into existence.
People who legit think story in child's entertainment/videogames doesn't matter at all are the opposite end of that autism spectrum.
I'd like to append to user's point that there are clear sequels, prequels, and a timeline split, but Ocarina of Time was not created with the idea that the first four games would fall into a "hero fails" timeline. There's vague continuity, but no serious master plan at work.
In some games (as recently as Sonic Runners), they're treated as having the same degree of intelligence as the Sonic cast. Unlike the comic, they're not just basic animals.
Sure but things should be added to facilitate the primary story with few deviations. This isn't hard sci-fi; we don't need a long-winded chapter-long taxonomically-detailed explanation of the evolution of humans, Mobians (for lack of a better term) and mobini on the planet. They exist because Eggman wants to capture them and stuff them into robots, therefore any explanation that distracts from the primary story is unnecessary. If the comics ever do a story where the evolutionary history of the mobini is somehow relevant to the plot, then sure.
I mean hell, we don't have an explanation for how humans and Mobians exist, they simply do too, because we as the audience can assume that they simply naturally evolved like animals in the real world, unless we're explicitly told otherwise like with the Xorda shit.

It is in the comics. It's stated that Mina can run fast simply by being a mongoose. Meaning Sonic can run fast simply by being a hedgehog. And if that doesn't count because it's preboot and not official SEGA material, it's stated again in Sonic Chronicles.
And if that doesn't count because it's not canon anymore despite being an officially published game, just open your eyes. Amy is able to reach speeds at least rivaling Tails just by running and is pretty fucking fast in Heroes. Silver may not be fast in 06 but he's canonically a speed character in Rivals and Runners.
Of all the characters who canonically go nearly as fast as Sonic can, only the hedgehogs go that fast on their feet.
There seems to be a lot of people who think that around this thread. I don't think this is hard sci-fi either, and I don't much care for the topic at hand, but there's nothing wrong with wanting more detail.
Just because a story isn't super serious or adult doesn't mean it can't be well written and detailed when it wants to.
