What a noble sacrifice.

Why did you guys let chei make the thread

How much damage does cleansing flame do at 27invocations compared to 20 and 15?

>get Plain Gold Ring down to **
>phase behind rubble to heal and rebuff
>autopickup a pot, inventory letters shift
>'Z'ap destruction instead of healing

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

What makes a good roguelike?

It doesn't do much more damage, I think. It scales roughly by your Invocation level, so you'll only be doing 7-12 more damage at max Invo compared to 20 and 15.

Hi, I just got killed my a Stone Giant I Trog granted me.

It was in Spider, the enemy Rupert was there, and I read a scroll of immolation before and the explosions did decent damage to him.

What made him kill me?

ASCII

2dpower
power = 10 + 7/6 * Invocations
50% more for evil monsters
wolframalpha.com/input/?i=(10 + (7/6) * x) x from 0 to 27

Hurting your own allies makes them go hostile

>On doing a full 15-rune run I had statueform, tornado, fire storm and a bunch of other skills.
>Not too bad, I say.
how
what fail rate
once you hit -6 aptitude (at skill level 11?) you need twice as much exp as a fucking scummy mummy to advance
I saw your chei gnoll of +15 int and I'd guess even then you were just barely casting high level spells consistently after getting pan exp

60int + wiz makes lvl 9 castable at around 16 skill

are you sure

quality is directly proportional to amount of content

guess what is the best roguelike

ADOM and Elona

Note that 16 skill is around 22skill on normal species

elona
slex

does anyone even play slex
whats even the differences between it and nethack

nethackwiki.com/wiki/Slash'EM_Extended

Thread quality scales with stats.

good to know ..
but it would be cool if enemy aoe makes enemies friendly too

>does anyone even play slex

If CDDA wasn't ascii no one would call it a roguelike.

It'd be complicated to implement. In any case, monsters try to not hurt other monsters.

unreal world is like that any everyone calls it a roguelike

>not using inscriptions to control the inventory letters of all your devices
my staves of healing are alwas @uh and destruction is always @ud

oh you can climb up walls in cdda now.

a bit broken though, walls dont have proper flooring on the floor above, and zombies can climb up them somehow

w-wolframalpha-sama!?

new dcss monster thoughts

looks more like a self portrait to me

...

DICKU

at 14 skill, which does more damage, a +2 halberd or a +0 glaive, both of elec?

Just use the halberd until you're at mindelay for the glaive, retard.

I'm so sorry.

>six runes down, just cleared coc despite Xom turning me into a tree right when Antaeus showed up
>Boy, things are going really well! I bet I could 15-rune a chaos knight as long as nothing really bad happens!
>Happily tabbing away

67629 | Zig:11 | XOM: cast spell 'Ice Form'
67630 | Zig:11 | HP: 6/570 [reaper/scythe of slicing (41)]
67630 | Zig:11 | Mangled by a reaper

AYY FUCK, guess that's my fault for playing a non-undead race. Oh well, it was a fun run. I think all my good CK runs die to eventually getting transmuted into something useless in the middle of a dangerous situation. Thems the breaks.

>zig
fault

>Mi
Disgust

>67630 | Zig:11 | HP: 6/570 [reaper/scythe of slicing (41)]
>reaper/scythe of slicing (41)
Rip in piss

>MiCK
Play a SpCK like a real man

>Not MuCK
You deserve this.

The problem is not Ice form, it's the fact you had 6 HP in Zig: 11 and didn't read blink at turn 6729, then cancellation, then heal wounds.

First for Infra Arcana will never, ever be compiled.

Didnt even notice i was attacking mara until he was dead since im just holding tab, remove qazlal this is so much fun

I was berserked actually, hence the 570 HP. I only had a couple harmless enemies remaining on the floor and figured I'd blow a useless potion to clean them up. I didn't want to worry about dying due to some bad rolls.

I don't doubt it was my fault though. Here's the dump if you want to laugh at my poor decision making.

pastebin.com/Dr060C8f

>Xom grants you a minor favour
Thanks mr. xom!

Xom gave me the potion of exp just like that at the beginning of the game, i only took like 20, 30 turns max

For how long do you keep your starter chaos weapon?
I head it help with xom's mood or attitude or whatever, keeping him interested

Not worth it.
Xom's mood is going to be bad until you start getting stronger anyhow. And he won't abyss you until then either.

*compiles IA*

it's at least worth playing for the novelty and a weird death. I've done that a double handful of times and had reasonable fun in the doing. If/when I ever want to try and actually progress instead of fumbling around and dying horribly, I'll join their irc chat for protips and termcast spectators. That way I can take longer and invest more of my life into a still similarly silly death.

But yeah I recommend at least playing for, say, 20 minutes for the sake of doing it. Reading over the death dump is pretty entertaining. A lot of weird ass randomization going on under the hood gets logged in your chardump after you die.

I try to swap it asap because its usually more harm than good and it doesnt give you a lot of 'piety' or whatever so its really not worth it
It can be really useful against some early on hard monsters like d:1 gnoll or adder and similar, all depending on your race

*shoots an enemy through a grate*
*reads a thorough summary of hit chances against each monster*
*activates a pylon to fuck up a zombie squad*
*pulls a lever to close/open a distant door*

Imagine being a windowslet who can't even compile a video game on their own.
Embarassing.

>that pool
>those herbs
>that corpse
That looks exactly like adom.

not sure for pools, but " for herbs and % for corpse is in a lot of ascii games, even beyond roguelikes.

There are none of those things in that image.

>I pull the lever
>I

>I PULL THE LEVER!
>ROCKS FALL!
>I AM DEAD!

Actually there is a corpse "&" in a hallway near the middle of the level.

That's a foocubus.

I like chicken, he likes beef
She loves pork, while his boyfriend is a vegetarian

In my mind, roguelikes is a buffet – up to each to choose his/her fare…

IA's poorly designed garbage monsters just kill you instead of rewarding you for playing a boring mini game.

Soon gonna push these stupid changes. Not really important, but at least they don't break saves.

>level 11 of a ziggurat
>Xom
>You are too berserk!
>*Slow
>67629 | Zig:11 | XOM: cast spell 'Ice Form'

You really should stop at Zig:9-10, ditch Xom and switch to Zin / TSO later.

>the the mattock
Anyway, cool. What happens if you don't have virtues on?

>The The

the the

oopsie doo, forgot the names contain 'the' already.

New DCSS monster thoughts?

KILL KILL KILL

bring back goldfish, beetles, and elephant slugs

It at the moment picks it mostly from alignment which still exists without alignments to my knowledge. I scrapped the virtue-acting since it is hard to make it work with good sense ( since lot of the value-changes are rather arbitrary )

Rings and weapons can act passively ( rings with higher chance ).
Weapons act on melee attacks, too.

I probably will look more into it later. They are supposed to be rare things, anyway, although I think you can set them on fixed artifacts.

These suck, but I do really miss suppression moth, old komodo dragon and thorn lotus.

you shut your noob mouth when you talk shit about my precious legacy monsters

>and thorn lotus.
You fucking don't.

so what happened to dcss devs? did nethack traumatize them so bad theyre scared of having features?

>he plays tiles

No, that's the Brogue devs

>devs
>s

We need a roguelike where each floor has only one boss enemy and you have have to use what you're given to beat it.

Give me one reason why I shouldn't play a death sword and grind orc caves for 30 hours straight

...

>enter v:5
>worship qazlel
>rape everything
I havent had this much fun in dcss in a while

This is almost exactly the postgame to what I'm working on.

What if there was a roguelike skateboarding game

Wouldn't the lack of rMut eventually just fuck those up on extended?

>recent
>1million games

>more
>more
>more
>more
>more
idk dude

>I STROKE MY DICK BECAUSE LONELY

>show_more = false

>I'm working on
sure you are

More?

This is very problematic. A patriarchal symbol like this has no place in a game that's devoted to equal representation, feminism, and anti-Eurocentrism like Crawl.

The purge begins lads
github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/c3e0a5ca6ddc4b3908ba1774af25dfd7dfa69b92

Well, at least this run was somewhat different I somehow did not die to the effects of a yeti's icebreaker at one point in time.

The next run will certainly be more different, alright.

of course go with your own opinion. It's not bad at all to take advice from your friends, but at the end of the day it's still your decision.

This is bike shedding, right?

Anyway, pushed the changes. Two new dragons and minor fixes.
They are still kinda in prototype-stage, so frequency, how bad they are and etc. are still in works, I suppose.

Oh, and you don't get to know the 'personality' of weapon/ring explicitly. You have to deduce it, which is kinda simple.

It's beyond bikeshedding, bikeshedding would be something like a trivial apt tweak or tweak to a damage formula of almost no consequence. This is just the developers trying their best to align themselves with Social Justice principles.
