Track record in 88 was without chicanes on the backstraight.

modern cars are literally faster, top end difference isn't that much, and average speed through the lap is 0.2km/h less.

To give you an idea of the pace the lead LMP2 car would have been on pole in 2007 and this is the first year ever every car qualified with a sub 4m lap time and 12 of the LMP2 cars qualified faster than the R90CK despite having 500HP less.
