Well for one thing the current cars are faster

>La Sarthe speed record set in 1988
Modern cars simply benefit from better transmissions, better braking and sharper handling allowing for much more precise laps, but when it comes to all out speed OP is right
Toyota set a quali lap time of 3:14 on medium tyres thursday.
That was on a track with chicanes.
Track record in 88 was without chicanes on the backstraight.
Better aero>faster around the corners
Hybrid system>faster acceleration
modern cars are literally faster, top end difference isn't that much, and average speed through the lap is 0.2km/h less.
>In 1990 two chicanes were added to the mulsanne straight to limit the achievable maximum speed.
>Current cars are faster
>I don't have any concrete proof but you guize really do have to trust me pls
This is just sad
>literally mentioning toyota quali laptimes
>no concrete proof
>doesn't even understand how he was BTFO
sad
>Absolute speed record from the 80s still standing
>MUH MAGICAL NIP SHIT IS FASTER! PLEASE B-BELIEVE MY WEABOO GOSPELS
Again, please show me any car that has exceeded 254 MPH on La Sarthe anytime since 1990.......
GT1 was pretty awesome, but I was too young to watch back then
fuck, you're right. I was getting assmad because i thought you were shitposting ITT but wikipedia seems to be on your side
>conceding an argument on Veeky Forums after being presented proof
That's refreshing.
So let me get this straight:
>Sauber C9 highest trap speed at end of mulsanne straight with NO chicane
>lap time record of 3:13 set by a different car
>Toyota TS050 do a 3:14 laptime despite a much lower top speed on a track WITH TWO chicanes
>sauber is somehow faster
There he goes again, brain-damaged, hopelessly illiterate and having missed his short-bus to the local buffet for the 10th time in the last 2 hours comes back to his computer to try and save his e-honor.
For some reason, the concept of "absolute recorded top speed" is something extremely alien to you.
>There he goes again, brain-damaged, hopelessly illiterate and having missed his short-bus to the local buffet for the 10th time in the last 2 hours
max kek
>not posting the GOAT
...
The '88 track was actually shorter as well.
...............
>show me a car that's faster on this part of a track.....that doesn't exist anymore
>you can't even show me a faster car on a track that doesn't exist anymore
>I win
Kek
>toyota
Even if you don't like the modern day cars, it's still a hell of an event
Yeah but where's the soul and passion?
tbeh as much of a faggot as he is, he is still technically right. Wiki shows that some Frog car set the speed record in 1988, and it has never been surpassed.
To give you an idea of the pace the lead LMP2 car would have been on pole in 2007 and this is the first year ever every car qualified with a sub 4m lap time and 12 of the LMP2 cars qualified faster than the R90CK despite having 500HP less.
>newer cars have better tech than older cars
wow, who would've thought that?
Mazda 787B is the true best car of the group C era
oh look, babby just played his first copy of gran turismo 4
are they sexy though?
pro tip, they arent
getting rid of GT2 was the worst thing for lemans.
that was the dealth of some sort of manufacturer pariaty
Do you not understand that the track was different before 1990? I mean how hard is it?
>Car 1 has for example 10km straight and sets whatever top speed
>All other cars have 1km straight and obviously can only go so fast
>>"durr it don't matter, car 1 unbeatable!"
If you really think 80s cars could compete with today's hybrids you might be mentally ill.
not really, that car just won be shear luck and was falling apart at the end
as much as i like the car, it took Mazda 15 years to finally do that
>and was falling apart at the end
>allegedly the most reliable with engine ready to complete another 24hrs if needed
What in the fuck did he mean by this?
