I am already using the wolfrpg hooks but that doesn't get rid of the spammed default threads.
VNR is too crashy for me, constantly just locks up and shit. Of course it could be a problem of the vm I use. VNR had wine support in the past but that shit doesn't work any more and their site is dead.

Chiitrans Lite works sort of fine. You can pick not to get text from the spam threads, but some stuff like menu text only shows up in those, so you'll have to go through this inane ritual of tabbing in and out of the game twice to get the text in the thread to look proper, then click it in the chiitrans window to get it in the translation window.

The program also still does crash, but at the very least its a lot faster to restart than VNR bloat is.

It's an official untouched Wolf RPG 2.10 exe, you shouldn't even need a custom hook for it with agth /x, just filter HP/MP spam with (regexes in) TAHelper.

Damn, I have only had crashing problems with that one too (with the names.txt from that one script dude). As far as I know, it only works at the copy/paste level between hooker and TA. That doesn't get rid of the thread spamming and memory issues I get in ith/agth.
Normally it takes at least half an hour until an hour but after progressing the game and filling up the inventory it begins with little lockup ups that don't matter until it gets worse when the menu is active and often manifests in normal gameplay as well. I guess one of the menu threads is just too spammy the more items get added to it. It will probably help selling of unneeded items, me thinks.

I'm currently converting the vm to vmware and see if it makes a difference since it's supposed to be more performant than virtualbox. wine sadly handles the thread spamming worse than a vm.

Thing is Japanese can be translated in a lot of different ways and you can probably see "styles" of translation from different translators. Play the one you enjoy the most although I suspect that both of them had some help of machine translation or translated without having played the game first.

VMware supports Windows XP Mode VHDs out of the box iirc, you could just download Japanese WinXP off of MS and use that. All Wolf games work in XP flawlessly.

But the game is divided. Half the people hate it the other half love it. The start is pretty bad but the game opens up and becomes more open-ended in the middle which is where the meat of the game is.

I personally didn't really like it but you should at least give it a try and if you still don't like it when it opens up then drop it.

it's pretty decent. I like it at least. most common criticism is that the art is meh I don't think it's that bad, and that art is reused in multiple scenes, which I don't really mind since they all have unique dialogue.
If you're not into ntr the first few scenes might turn you away, but after that it becomes much more palletable. also what said

NTR games usually are mechanically the most interesting. It's just that the translated NTR games until now have been pretty short and linear for translation purposes.

While testing the machine translation google seemed to work fine,but in game it just respits the collected text back out in a split second.
The other trasnlators work find they work like shit actually but i don't think that's a bug
