game is pretty retard proof just go do whatever and when you hit 30 level a secondary class for a job crystal

Make sure to do the novice dungeon stuff. It gives you new gear and when you finish all the missions you get a good ring that boosts your exp, which will help when you start levelling other classes later on.

Whats wrong with having tanking stance on bosses in general? wouldn't less damage offset and more enmity offset the longterm negatives?

If you use your defensive CDs right a healer can still get off their own dps. There's nothing wrong with not dropping it, but the be all end all of this game is speed killing and dps, the more you do the better you are.

Run dungeons until you get to the point where you can do the Palace of the Dead. Much faster, super easy, and let's you try out the end game skills for your class/job. Occasionally still do dungeons to get a feel for doing your role in an active environment.

People will argue about minmaxing even dungeons to the last drop of DPS. You being in damage stance and losing some mitigation is worth more than the healers damage, especially since damage in this game from bosses is extremely predictable.

No, it wouldn't. All you need to do is keep enmity, once you've established that there is no reason to use tank stance; it's a dps loss. Use your CDs properly instead.

I really hate when tanks sit in DPS stance and don't use CDs because I can't dps at all without worrying about their HP plummeting at the drop of a hat.

Keeping tank stance on is lazy. Defiance just gives you health which isn't useful outside of tankbusters and convalesence. Grit is the same.

Just taking autoattack damage is usually enough to be healed by regen out of tank stance.

Grit reduces damage taken, WAR is the only stance that grants health.

Yeah that's what I meant, instead of giving you more HP to take damage it is just a % reduction, which is weak compared to something like shadow wall.

Stance dancing on a tank isn't even that great of a feat.

Just make sure your big damage reduction is off cd like thrill, sentinel, shadow wall, etc. Make sure your very last hit was your biggest threat combo. Then pop your cd, change stance, go ham, switch back once it's off and you feel like you're taking too much damage.

MNK doesn't need to be fed enhanced Balance to catch up in enmity. If a NIN isn't present, the MNK will inevitably catch up even without an AST in the run

You can bring several characters with one payment, make throwaway alts (if you have the subplan for more characters) just in case you ever feel like having them. And you can only bring a very limited amount of gil.
