I have taken the Amazon pill. I buy everything there. The Prime membership is a fantastic deal for a shameless consumerist. I know that every time I spend money there, Bezos gets closer to his vision of world domination, but I don't care. These prices are so good.

The only hindrance with Amazon are third party sellers, and reliance on local delivery services and associated charges.
If Amazon made regional collection centres with no charge, that'd be it, I'd never buy anything significant in a shop again.

How to get prime for free?
Churn through free student account trials. Many community colleges let you apply free where I am, which incidentally lets me do this.
Only downside is you have to eventually pay for some of there special discounts.
