A better question is "how are you supposed to solo dreadking?". I'm stuck on G5 dreadqueen, which has a dreadking in it, and he's the bane of my existence. It's hard to hit his wings, it's hard to mount things in X, he has fucking autoaim on his fireballs. Fuck dreadking. I'm at a point where I pretty much don't want to play MH at all anymore. I will never buy a game with dreadking in it. He can stay gone forever.

yeah, for the astalos dreadking quest i used full silverwind set+axe
wasn't too bad since it can actually reach dreadkings feet and tail when its flying around nonstop

I've been thinking about stopping being a full-time solo hunter and get some friends into MH, so I've decided to move from FU to P3rd, mostly due to the equipment gap there would be if I stayed in FU. Not that they're not willing to blow forty bucks for a game they don't know yet will hold their souls hostage and never let go. Though they don't have 3DS either, so that's that.

Since I've always been a solo player, I've always gone through the village quests before challenging the guild ones. How far along the village quests should I be before setting out to multiplayer?

Where can I find lots of G-Rank Rhenoplos?

village is pretty small since it's a High Rank game, so go crazy.

Personally, I solo'd to Jhen Mohran, which I believe was the Low Rank to High Rank guild advancement quest. But if you've got willing friends, fuck it, just hop on whenever.

Is it unadvisable to start directly with the MP so I can ease them into the game?
I'm mostly uneasy about leaving them in the dust, I don't want them to feel like they're the puny sidekicks to a guy who knows his shit (which they will probably be at first, but I don't want them to get a bad impression out of MH).

P3rd is pretty unique since the only benefit I remember getting from village is the farm. The sauna is actually communal and upgrades via its own list of quests, so you can essentially never touch village and still be just fine.

Just try not to be too overbearing with your advice, because no one likes feeling patronized. Especially when you initially suck at the game. But do tell them about important basic stuff like armor skills, or show them one or two cool tricks you can think about.
I still think that the first contact with the game should be solo though.
Also, be sure to not do everything with them, because if you just carry them without them realizing it, they won't get better.

Off the top of my head I can think about armor skills, felyne comrades, sauna (which replaces the kitchen, I believe?), farming (both village and the need to farm carves), the lack of "conventional" mechanics such as lock-on, health bars, levels and that sort of stuff. What did I miss?
