Artist/programmer here looking for an ideaguy, tell me what type of paper you're using and whether you prefer pens or pencils

moleskin paper, I like pencils

Music/art dev here looking for a programmer. Tell me what kind of keyboard you use and if you use vim, emacs, or notepad++

Is there any reason for small 2D games that won't use multiplayer or have some intense feature like open world, to not use Java as the language to get the easy portability?

Oh, I see, nevermind user, I hope you find a game to work on soon

It's fine to use Java. Being disproportionally negative about it is pretty much a meme.

I mean I know it has downsides like the garbage collector and running on the virtual machine but that really just seems to be a downside if you do something stupid like Notch and build an endless 3D world on it

Is there a reason you're so focused on portability?

----[ Recap ]----
Game: Harmon:i:c
Dev: AWK
Tools: Godot, Ableton Live
Web: awk.itch.io/harmonic, awkgamedev.tumblr.com/
Progress:
+ Several improvements to most levels
+ Rewind key
+ MORE SHADERS
+ Spaghetti cleanup and minor tweaks everywhere
- Tried refundable bridge mechanic but it was bad
- Deleted a whole level

Also I need someone to tell me if the early levels are still too hard or just right.

Nevermind user, I hope it works out for you with another game

well I just want to make sure if I make something that I don't restrict myself to like 20% of the market

You're putting the carriage before the horse user.

You should probably be more interested in making a good game which doesn't restrict yourself to 0% of the market.

----[ Recap ]----
Game: A.S.S
Dev: crabowitz
Tools: GM:S 2
Web: crabowitz.tumblr.com
Progress:
+ More robust skill scripting
+ Balance pass on player characters
+ Slightly better placeholder skill icons for some
- Really awful ones for others
+ New character customization options
+ Character customizer

According to the Steam survey like 95% of PCs use Windows as their OS. Go do some more research about what you're targeting if it really matters.

I run Linux and so does my friend, and we both use Steam.

Cool

----[ Recap ]----
Game: MoGiSho (Moth Girl Shooter)
Dev: WRIT
Tools: GM:S
Web: thirdkeyofsun.tumblr.com/, twitter.com/thirdkeyofsun
Progress:
+ Finalizing intro background redraws
- Having minor issue's getting Blue's sword fragments to return properly under certain circumstances.
- Still lots to do before DD14

I do. This is fucking hilarious.
I added a vampire bite skill just for him.

I would say that the biggest problem after playing a few levels is how little you can see on the screen.

----[ Recap ]----
Game: Logic(working title)
Dev: user
Tools: Unity, Blender
Web: ---
Progress:
+ Starting on writing down all dialogue
+ Improved dragging and dropping anims
+ Added a simple collision avoidance model on gates
+ Some small things
- Bugs in cancelling connections between gates
- No concept for serializer implementation

>Moth Girl Shooter
i never knew i wanted this but i really want this

Still need to fill in the soil for the rest of these meshes and tweak the grid snapping size but I'm feeling pretty good about this raised garden placing thing.

If any of you have played ARK: Survival evolved before, I liked that approach of having plots for your plants like it has. However, I wanted to be able to actually connect them into rows or larger single plots so I'm implementing that into my game.

I'm getting this complaint so often that I will put a map of sorts on top of my priority list right now, maybe I'm just stubborn but I think the zoomed in camera is crucial.

can you place these unsymmetrically?

well i am happy you like it user

Just one more tile around would probably be enough.
It happened twice that I couldn't see where I'm pushing a block. Sometimes the camera doesn't center, which was part of the problem.

>tfw this is the extent of your art abilities

Hey someone go create a gamedev shill thread on /v/

now keep making more little colonial looking 2600 sprites
now make them slightly more detailed
does it look like shit? good, keep doing it
continue doing it no matter how shit it looks
eventually, you'll notice your core skills improving
stay strong

One day I'm going to make a game with this car, screenshot this post.

Unfortunately, my last attempt to find a project to make art for didn't go so well. So I'll ask in the new thread, is anyone looking for an artist?

>artist wants to work on a project
>doesn't post examples of his art
no thanks

Yes. Working on a contribution-collab project with a few different artists. We'll take any skill level assuming it's a serious attempt.
You can either get paid up front depending on quantity and content, or instead we can work out a cut which is much less money upfront, but you'll continue to get paid as long as the project rakes in money (our Patreon alone current pulls in over $1500 a month).
As for workload and the content, we can disclose that and the Patreon after you fax or mail us a physically signed and notarized NDA, after which we can discuss payment and what you'll be working on. Must be comfortable working with adult art, must be willing to finish the entire set you commit to, and payment is only sent via mailed check/money order. No Paypal.
Post your email and we'll contact you to discuss further.

A true idea guy makes his own paper.

In that webm, the grid snapping is one quarter increments with the single plot 1 x 1.
I'm tightening up the neighbor detection so you can have slight offset placement without the mesh switching to a neighbor handshake one unless they are actually lined up.

Although as it is now makes for a kinda neat fortress/ maze map maker with overlapping tiles

How about you show me your game you stink-butt

>programmer wants an artist
>could be modding skyrim or making a MUD
>refuses to tell anything about the project
No thanks

was fully expecting a swastika

Wouldn't click and drag walls make more sense than placing squares?

>NDA
are you fucking serious?

Hey guys, Chad here again. Still looking for the following for my game:

- 4 programmers (C++ only)
- 5 3D artists (Blender only)
- 2 concept artists (GIMP only)
- 2 sound makers (Fruity Loops only)

My idea will redefine video games as we know it. I've had a few emails from people asking for the game concept prior to joining the team but I just can't give that information out in case it gets stolen. You'll have to sign a contract and NDA first.

As for payment, 40% of the total game's profit will be divided between the team.

Please contact me at [email protected] if you're interested

Good luck!

Chad

$1500 a month is less than poverty

Serious question, why don't asians open their eyes all the way? Asking for my game

>(Fruity Loops only)
You should have said ardour to keep the FOSS pattern going.

why dont I enjoy making single player games? everygame I start I always end up thinking how would the game play out in multiplayer. does me not really being interested in story singleplayer games have an influence on it?

It's right here.

>does me not really being interested in story singleplayer games have an influence on it?
I don't care about stories and am fine making singleplayer games, but maybe.

Not every singleplayer game is about the story though.

Because ever since the whole white being forcing opium on them thing, they're constantly suspicious.

>40% of profits
40% of 0 is still 0. Why do you need such a large team? And filling it with amateurs isn't going to help.

It's meant to be a moonlight job I think, especially given you're going to be drawing furry porn.

>wants to get paid to work on a project but won't even sign a simple NDA
are you?

is over there.

I'll add that to the list of approaches, the way I'm doing it now, the player crafts a single raised garden plot and will place it individually.

Based on testing and feedback I might try a more Farming Simulator 20XX approach which has you drag a rectangle across the ground and that is the area that becomes a crop field etc.

I would need to better understand the maths required to fit the shapes to that approach though.

Is it a good idea to just try and copy old games to practice?

I'm thinking of making basic games like Pong, space invaders, ricochet ect. just to get coding and dev practice.

Making a game i really care about as my first game just doesn't seem to work, learning basic stuff as i go on a big project seems like a bad idea and i just get burnt out and don't touch it for long periods.

Can someone crash course me on SHADERS? I want to write shaders for my Java game, where do I start?

That's absolutely a good idea.

0/10

You're not making a hydrogen bomb faggot, you don't deserve a NDA.
Don't worry, I won't tell your mom you're moonlighting drawing werewolf gay porn.

Sure, that's the standard procedure.
Just don't get stuck doing clones of games you don't care about or that won't teach you useful skills, break down your main game idea into programming concepts that you need to learn and make small games based on these concepts.

Yes, but if you're not mostly flying solo by your third clone you should re-examine your learning process.

>especially given you're going to be drawing furry porn
you mean I could have been paid to be doing that? Where do I collect my shekels?

>it's source

So this is what it feels like to be born without talent

It's an NDA. Easily the most entry-level document you can sign. It shouldn't take more than a minute to read over and get notarized at your office.

If signing something so basic and inherent for a team-based project is such a huge obstacle for you, maybe you should reconsider your career as an artist.

And they're feminine werewolves so it's not gay.

Yes, that's how a lot of people learn gamedev. Just don't copy one genre, diversify your choices so you have to write different code and think about different sollutions.

I've been doing it totally wrong...

Game 1: Tennis for one becasue you're a lonely faggot with no friends and programming AI requires effort

TFOBYALFWNFAPA.I.RE

So it's pong, but the goal is to hit the opponent paddle that just goes back and forth

what did he meme by this

----[ Recap ]----
Game: Ctesiphon
Dev: Stomy
Tools: LibGDX, Blender, Krita
Web: stomygame.tumblr.com
Progress:
+ Keycards can now open locked doors
+ Pickup items are no longer physics-enabled (it didn't really add anything anyway)
+ New blast and explosion effects for shotgun and rocket launcher
+ Modeled up a new melee-focused enemy

...

>programming AI requires effort
Pong AI is literally the simplest thing in the history of humanity.

>he doesn't know
Artists regularly charge $150+ per commission, which takes no longer than a day to finish.
YCH auctions can go over $1000
Animations can get over $2000

It's not just art. Furry h-games rake in absurd amounts of money too. Their patreons are some of the most profitable indie developers on the site.

kys urself pls

...

time to sell my dignity and rake in the furry dineros

yo wasnt Monster Girl Island being posted here like a year ago?

Games I will copy before working on the game i really want to make

Pong (Game For Lonely Faggots)

Ricochet (Fuck You Gabe Where Is HL3?)

Some basic platforming shit filled with memes for attention (Pepe's Adventure)

Galaga (Prototype 1: mouse Control)

Lemonade Stand Tycoon (Prototype 2: Level up system)

Still willing to look at a programmer's project, if you need art hit me up

Weren't you already hired? We're still waiting on your first submission.

What's furry porn equivalent for programming
I'm so tired of wagecucking just want to make a little bit of money sitting at home naked and smelly

OK, so who wants to make a sex pervert game about mythical animals?

I know you're memeing or whatever but I'm just looking for an amateur project really, thanks

it's a misconception that every furfag is rolling in money. it's very much an old boys club, it's hard to get commissions without first churning out tons of free content and becoming a popular person that people are effectively paying to be able to say they've done business with you in any regard

>he likes to be smelly
what's wrong with you

dumb depressionposters

>he doesnt like sniffing his balls for that hit of caffine and salt

*hits user up*

Btw, I can use any engine/framework how about that

>someone makes twice your yearly salary in a month drawing dog cocks

Okay... so... do you actually have a game or what?

wtf...... why is this allowed...........

There isn't any.
Furshit is so profitable because it's a huge culture of internet autists with unused disposable income and literally no other hobbies. They've been groomed for decades to think it's acceptable to drop over $100 on a single drawing of a dog with a huge dick.

Just add goat dicks to your goat punch out game and you're set.

Someone makes twice your yearly salary in a month sucking dicks
Someone makes twice your yearly salary in a month doing literally nothing

Stop being a little bitch

What do you care, yeah I buy a couple $100 pictures a week but you go out to the bar with your fraternity every weekend too

As someone who's actually in the business, you're only half-right.
Entry-level artists can still score regular $15~$75 commissions. For a hobby that only takes an hour a day out of your time, that's a solid starting point.
And simply being able to put out content is enough to get the ball rolling. Remember original Breeding Season and how much money that made years ago, before he recruited his drama artists?

>ricochet
Why are you copying nodevs?

>huge culture
It's literally one korean doctor and that bayleef autist.

Now, sex toys, on the other hand, you need basically no skills to make and they sell for hundreds of dollars apiece for no clear reason.
