any topics you guys think aren't covered enough in school or mainstream shit?
I'm doing my best to bring back the Great Man theory of history, and remind people that great people exist and you should be trying to be one
great people have shaped our society, lets remember them!
hurrrrrrr
hes standing on top of the other gladiators instead of the sand
yes, I do have a direct interest in my own thread doing well. Good eye!
Invest in a better microphone and a pair of sunglasses.
thanks, yeah I know the lighting and the sound are still sort of off. I'm looking into getting a lapel mic rather than the one I have now
I "hand" draw on the pictures because I used to do that in class, I think it makes stuff more relateable
I quite like the video so far, I'm about 11 minutes in, but I'm not sure about this
>I'm doing my best to bring back the Great Man theory of history
This rubs me the wrong way. The Great Man theory as it was understood in the late 19th century was that history was invariably shaped by the machinations of certain individuals and by nothing else at all. It's a natural conclusion to come to when historiography was in its infancy, but I don't think it can hold much water today. That's not to say that you can ignore the agency of people like Sulla or Julius Caesar and only focus on the Johnny Pleb, but it's important to meet somewhere in the middle.
subbed, keep it up m8
See, I'm not saying everything is 100% behind any one idea
just like genes and society shape the individual, many factors shape the society
great people performing masterful feats for their society help enable it grow and dominate, and without them the society will be worse off
I was working in a college until recently and I repeatedly heard students say they didn't believe great people existed. That is what I mean when I say I want to bring back the theory of great man.
not that only great man shapes society, but that they exist and rightfully should.
ah, okay, that makes more sense
rock on dude
thanks!
next I'll do byzantium: probably Belisarius and Constantine XI Palaiologos, then flemish and northern renaissance, then early modern
Once the first layer of videos are down, I'll start doing independent people and art videos, showing the development over time.
thanks! if you have any other questions or recommendations, let me know, I'm still new and far from perfect
who's your favorite great person Veeky Forums?
Dude alcibiades is the funniest guy ever check him out plenty of content there
Thanks, I'm looking at him now. Should be able to fit into my next Greece video, unfortunately it'll be a little while before I get to that again
I explain the order in episode I: intro
here's episode III:
youtube.com
>that intro music
I'd change the intro, or at least the music to something more inviting. I'd also ditch the camera, and focus more on audio quality and talking over pictures. (charts and maps when necessary or just art related to the topic). You have a good voice for this kind of stuff, and your speech mannerism is nicely casual. Edits are also less obvious and jarring this way (5:34).
I'm subbed user, keep on man.
I know a bit about greek military and I'm studying greek archaeology, looking forward to more videos
yeaah the intro music could be improved, I had to make it myself and that's not really my thing.
1. yes
2. I wanted to keep the camera because I felt it imparted a sense of trustworthiness, I'm going to be speaking about important things and figured any bit could help
3. thank you!
4. yes I recently switched to a new editing program and it appears you can't edit once you've edited past a clip, so there are like three or four transitions in ep4 that had to stay hard cuts. I don't have the time right now unfortunately to go back and re-edit
thank you! as it gets more popular I'm going to be doing on location shots at cathedrals and domes and statues and such, if by some miracle this takes off I'll be going to the louvre and other landmarks
and here's episode II, so you guys can at least see I'm doing whatever I can to improve from video to video
youtube.com
just in case anyone is interested, I'll bump this thread for the final time
>yeaah the intro music could be improved, I had to make it myself and that's not really my thing.
Youtube has a ton of royalty-free music use by content creators.
I was reading up on it and I saw a lot of people talking about how they had used music they were told was royalty free, but ended up getting DMCA'd over it
if it comes directly from youtube though, maybe it would be safer? I'll look into this, thank you!
Why not just go to your friednly neighbourhood Orthodox/Catholic church and record the chorus singing some "dominus deus omnes fecit" for the intro?
I actually have a few of those, do you think they'd let me go in and get a recording? I'm a protestant heretic, is that how their churches even still work?
>is that how their churches even still work?
Can't speak for America, maybe in one of your older traditionalist churches or in some rural slav dominated area.
I see, well I'll look into it anyways.
Maybe since you've been so kind I'll throw something into the Byzantine video about turks that isn't negative
well I'm going to bed soon, I'll throw another thread up here when I get the next episode up. Should be by this Sunday
great video OP
