It's a lore bible so its express purpose is lore material. It covers up until the First War. It covers a lot of Azeroth's pre-Orc history and a lot about the Titans and the founding of the Burning Legion & Sargeras' war against the Void. Definitely worth getting if you like Warcraft.

The second Chronicle lore book was released a month or two ago. It covers Draenor's history and the Orcish arrival on Azeroth. There will be a third released next year and will cover after the Second War until the start of WoW (and maybe a little bit into WoW content). It is supposedly going to be the final Chronicle book.
