Kansen; if you want to get the general vibe of it without having to translate, first three and Ballbuster have OVAs that animate one or two branches pretty well (there's none for 4 and 5 isn't accurate to the story).
As far as TLs go, 3 and 5 have the best stories, so I suggest you go for those. The rest are either alright (1, probably 4), bad (2), or downright shit (Ballbuster). I don't have info about the newest one, though. I can hit you up with the complete version (every game except Clipping Chronicle) if you need it.
