It's remarkable how the fate of such a powerful region was decided by such a small battle

It really is interesting how small the battles were, but how big a deal they were to the region. Texas history is actually fairly interesting and full of tales of heroes (just like any other war, I'd wager, but being a 7th generation Texan makes you appreciate them more)

>Texians continued to chant "Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!" while frightened Mexican infantry yelled "Me no Alamo!" and begged for mercy to no avail.

Kettle War.

We don't have many more notable victories.

And yet it was all for naught

My Texas boner can only get so big user

The Texas Revolution has nothing to do with hatred of ethnic Mexicans or Hispanics, in fact many Mexicans fought for Texas.

...

Damn

Battle of Otumba. 500 Spanish vs 200,000 Aztec's. Spanish victory with less than 70 deaths and a large amount of Aztec deaths. I'd say about 150,000 Aztec deaths if I took a guess .

>over in 18 minutes

...

iv'e never been in a battle so there's nothing to be proud about.

I TRIED SO HARD

>Choctaw warriors
>Pirates
>Niggers
>Farmers
Why are brits so bad at war?

This is a war when Americans had 1/2 a million troops against some British and Canadians yet they got btfo in Canada, surrendered Detroit to forces lesser than them and had their capital captured and burnt down.

False

It's kinda not though...

Fought the world (yeah, like you Germany) and WON

BTFO beyond repair

Yes, I suppose he exiled himself twice :^)

These are the French Revolutionary Wars.
Started in 1792 and ended in 1802 when Britain agreed on an unfavorable peace after all their allies had been knocked out of the war

You probably confuse it with the Napoleonic Wars that started in 1803 and ended in 1815
Napoleon wasnt the head of state of France during the Revolutionary Wars

everything went downhill from here

How does shit like this happen? There were 30,000 Russians. How could they not overwhelm them?

glorious winged hussar lance folded 100 times stupid russian go home

I haven't studied that particular battle, but usually poor communication and discipline. It doesn't matter how many men you've got if they're not actually fighting, which they might not be if you can't get the right orders through in time or they're too busy running for their lives after a smaller local reversal.

i don't know how this is possible, but it happened.

while not as spectacular, the backstory is amazing.

Battle of Okezahama will always hold a sweet spot in my heart. Anyone talented in the arts willing to make a picture from the battle's wiki, like the others?

gotchu senpai

By 18:00, with ammunition exhausted, the last of Danjou's men, numbering only five, including Lt. Maudet, desperately mounted a bayonet charge. Two men fell outright, while the rest were surrounded. One of them, Victor Catteau, had leapt in front of Maudet in an effort to protect him, and died in the Mexican barrage. Major Campos ordered the Legionnaires to surrender, to which Corporal Phillipe Maine answered, "We will surrender if you leave us our weapons and our equipment. You also have to promise to take care of our wounded lieutenant."

When Campos brought the trio to Milán, he asked, "Is this all of them? Is this all of the men who are left?" Then, in amazement, he exclaimed, "These are not men! They are demons!"

>famalam there is still 1500 mexicans outside, what do ?
>just charge

>that K:D ratio while consistently outnumbered
ah yes I do love my country's military history
up to Marignano at least...

>be swiss
>swear to stay neutral forever
>actually keep your word

good guy switzerland, except for that 1800's thing where we attacked first and you tried back later

I'd be hard pressed to think of ships that fought harder than the Sammy B. and the other escorts of Taffy 3.

>Be Napoleon
>Lol fuck that treaty I forced you to sign 300 years ago imma take your country. You basicaly speak french anyway
>3 years later
>Constant revolt make Switzerland impossible to keep under control
>Lol I was wrong, Switzerland can't be made republican, you're a "confederation by nature" (cit. Napoleon)
>You're released

>Americans had
>500,000 troops
Nice bullshit.

Thanks frate

This one's a pretty good contender.

This, Gallipoli and the Battle of Amiens make me look back in awe.

What about this exactly makes you look back in awe?

this campaign always interested me, Britain failed so severely because you have a pre-industrial military attempting a massive amphibious assault in a place that's extremely hostile to human life.

The best is that coin made for the victory but they lost

The sheer determination of the soldiers to keep fighting in that place, I always was and still am fascinated by the way they pushed themselves to their limits there and it's hammered pretty hard in Australian culture as our defining moment as a nation.

Dunno, losing such a huge portion of your population for some pointless war that does not affect your people at all, just because a country that colonised your continent more than 100 years ago told you to doesn't really seem like a good event to define your nation, not to even mention the disaster that that operation was

Yep, they were also against modern fortifications and had and exteremely overconfident attitude after seeing the small spanish garrison.

And then you have to add a competent admiral from the spanish that knew how to take advantage of the setting with attrition tactics.

>implying the Napoleinic wars weren't a direct continuation of the revolutionary wars

Yeah, I agree on the pointlessness of the campaign but I believe it set in stone the foundation for our national identity and as such it could be seen as a campaign to show the bravery of the soldiers and galvanize the population at the home front. I suppose Australia not only joined the war for the sake of defending the motherland but also to ensure our own safety and alliances, as Australia only came into a nation in its own right 13 years before the onset of the war, which also ties in that many citizens show themselves still as citizens of the British Empire rather than Australian.

...

We have lot of great victories, but i choose this one.

post some of you victories against the Finns!

How we win Soviet-Finn war in 1940 and take lot of lands near city Leningrad?

Yeah that one, post one of those great victories

>I've never been in a war
>I think it's cool
>I take pride in events I wasn't involved in

OK.

>pride in anything but your own accomplishment isn't legit
>son to father or father to son pride isn't legit
OK.

Who win?USSR win!

Yankee scum btfo

Did your father fight in any of these wars.

You can recursively take pride in any war if you go far enough.

Either way it's just stupid to claim credit for X when you didn't do X.

Not to mention it's misguided to glorify war.

I'm not even the guy you were responding to
I made this example in another thread but who cares, I'll make it again
I'm very proud of my mom getting out of drug addiction
I had no involvement whatsoever in this, she made it herself, which is why I'm so proud of her for this
I can just aswell take pride in my father taking part in a victorious war (he didn't)
Thus I can be proud of my ancestors and their achievements
And I can be proud of my nation

Personally one of my all time favorite battles and definitely the most btfo battle ever but holy shit I am going to need to see a citation or at least see your reasoning for saying that 150,000 Aztecs died. I don't know if you can comprehend how hard that would be for a few hundred men to accomplish, even with fully armored heavy cavalry on open ground, plate armored men-at-arms, crossbowmen, gunners, pikemen, native allies, etc.

You can be proud I guess I just dislike the >we meme, but you bring up a good point about being proud of a related person. I guess it's a personality thing where you draw a line between who's related.
To be honest I've never really felt proud of anything and have always tried to achieve things in my personal life - to be my own man in terms of achievements, but I more often feel like a failure.

Anyway, good for your mom and your family. Take care.

>Be Mexican stupid-ass nigger president-general
>Set up camp with my back to a river with no pass
>To my front there's a hill
>This is an undefendable position
>Remember I'm an idiot and do nothing
>My subordinate actually went to school and complains about my stupid nigger-tier idea
>Dismiss him
>Suddenly Texans attack
>Didn't care about setting up some kind of defense
>Surprised my troops panicked
>Troops run to the river and drown
>Those that didn't drown end up being shot
>Remember I massacred their brothers, cousins and fathers at the Alamo
>justfuckmyshitup.tiff
>Panic too and ride away
>Get captured and manage to give Texans more of what they were actually asking for

10 years later Mexico loses 55% of its territory.

>ethnicity means nationality

nsdap please go and stay go

Literally entire country mens population is militia lol.

Fucking brits

It's in the british revisionist nature.

If something doesn't fit the narrative of Muh Invincible British Empire, just change it.

It might not seem important and maybe I'm exaggerating it simply because several of my ancestors fought there, but it's amazing how few people even know about this, especially that we saved our nation from an colonial American chimpout.

But theyre not the same war. Theyre completely different. Not even a continuation really.

The Revolutionary Wars were fought to protect the flegling Republic from the onslaught of Monarchies who wished to reinstall the French Royal Family as head of state, while the Napoleonic Wars were wars of conquest fought to feed Napoleon's dreams of grandeur. Napoleon wasn't even head of the French state during the Revolutionary Wars.

So, yes, the whole world was BTFO.

Priding yourselves in sneaking into their camp and burning it cinder, while killing thousands of men in their sleep?

there is a reason the pope wanted a Swiss guard you know

Not really "one" battle.
But fucking glorious.
Fucking catholics.

>decline of feudalism
and this is where everything went to shit

In central europe*

t. butthurt ancap

During this """battle""" the Serbs and Ottomans had a truce that they would fight in the morning but the Ottomans broke it and attacked the Serbs while they were sleeping in their camp

>almost no casualties
>short
>mostly resolved through political and diplomatic actions

really makes me proud

...

Why should i care about this? Nationalism is a spook.

...

>even their most heroic battle ended in a surrender
can't make this shit up

there were times where wars were not fought between nationalities but between good and evil.

...

Slovenia looks a lot like Pakistan.

Do not forget based Vermont

a pakistani chicken maybe

I'd like to say the entirety of the war, even though we lost. We put up a good fight for a long time though.

The Protestant Boys are loyal and true
Stout hearted in battle and stout-handed too
The Protestant Boys are true to the last
And faithful and peaceful when danger has passed
And Oh! they bear
And proudly wear
The colours that floated o'er many a fray
Where cannons were flashing
And sabres were clashing
The Protestant Boys still carried the day

As an Indian, it makes me proud to know that our people at least for once won against the Brits.
