80's

The Mitsubishi Starion was the coolest looking
Japanese car of the 80's. Prove me wrong, pro-tip, you can't.

I 100% agree. Shame about the engine. How do these handle? I'd love a 4g63t swapped one.

Ah the Starion, one of the most criminally underrated cars of the 80's, it's a shame that it had the beautiful Japanese sleek design but had the reliability of a typical American car meaning the engines blew at around 80k mile mark, hint hint Chrysler...

Most people end up engine swapping them, they handle pretty decently, a bit heavier than your typical 80's car.

These don't come up for sale too much in the US. Last I checked there were 5 across the country on autotrader. I was seriously considering trying to find one because it had everything I was looking for... sadly couldn't find a good one so got a memeiata instead. No regerts

My 5th grade teacher had one.
It was, by far, the coolest teachers car in the lot.

Great little car. Not very fast. Most of the aftermarket support is gone for the engine and the chassis unfortunately.

Just checked again... now there are three:
-An 88 with 40k selling for $14k
-An 89 with 40k selling for $20k
-An 88 with 80k selling for $4k "as is"

I'm sure somebody will trailer the beater and flip it. With $6k of work it could be sold for $15k or so... good investment

Wow I bought mine for $1700 5-6 years ago. Car needed a little work but it ran well.

jesus is this right? Too lazy to check. Not that long ago those were $2k cars because they were all broken. Kid I knew in high school had one, bright yellow. Awesome looking cars.

Cool and everything but might as well get a celica supra

Starions have some of the best stock wheels of any car

Bro it literally just looks like a camaro...

The Japs can't create their own styling so they copy others

but that's wrong

its pretty ugly tbqh

generic 80s sports car as fuck

To be honest some of the premium sedans are really underrated in coolness.

>yfw this is a pillarless four door

It's gorgeous Newfaggot

Too bad the interior wasn't as cool as the exterior.

Honestly though I believe this one is LS1 swapped. Usually i see 4g63t and rb26 swaps for drift.

I mean theres nothing wrong with being gay but dang

yup

excuse me

speaking of Honda

this shit came with a fold up motorized scooter

now thats cool

car is stock other than the wheels btw

fuck youre Starion aint got shit on this

How the fuck does that look good that car looks like its parents don't believe in vaccinations

Isn't that a Dodge Daytona?

Naw it was also sold as a Dodge Conquest

dunno

looks better than generic 80s sports car "design" that looks like someone read a "how to draw a sports car" book published in 1984

Yep. Really similar, though.
The Daytona succeeded the Conquest.

As much as I love 80's Toyotas, the Starion blows it away in the looks department.

...

Goddamnit, OP. You had to remind I couldn't buy this car.
About a year, a beautiful one was out for sale for really cheap, because it was almost winter, and the owner didn't want to use it as a winter car. It was out for sale for a while too, and the price was lowered multiple times.
But because of reasons I couldn't buy it. Goddamnit.

Ive got 4 on craigslist within 150 miles of me, idk where you're looking

tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/6175323172.html

I thought these cars all sold in the $4k-$6k range? Who in their right mind would pay $20k or even $14k for an 80s shitbox?

...

>XDDDDD look guys I posted it again kek!

yes hello I will have the daytona turbo pls

There was one for sale near me for $1500obo. Was in decent condition too

Just did.

This may be a bit weird, but I really like the looks of the late 80s Preludes.

my dad bought one for 2 grand and just had to put the engine in it.
.we worked all weekend fixing it up only for him to sell it.

i didnt even get a god damn thank you.

Fuck you dad.

Nissan were pretty on-point with their hatchbacks then. I also like the looks of the Sigma/Galant just as much as the Starion.

>Nissan fangirl shits up another thread with xir's wrong opinions

cute! CUUUUUUUUUUUUTE!!!!!

>mirrors on the fender
M-MUH DICK

That Silvia liftback is pretty much the best looking liftback created.

You're right the 80s were the best design decade

but why

...

...

>no 4 wheel drive
>no air suspension
>no cool interior
>shit aerodynamics

Not even close to being as cool as the subaru XT.

...

R U I N E R

they have all disappeared.

You forgot
>No Group B Rally Heritage

...

Well I stated it was Autotrader in my post so that would probably answer that question

Jesus I wish that wasn't just an Accord Aerodeck shooped on.

Z31s don't seem to go for a lot of money, I even see a Shiro for 5500. Understandable because they were somewhat heavy and had underpowered engines (due to muh emissions), but I wonder if a Z31 could be turned into a GODMACHINE.

Holy shit. I need one now.

Bumping for great Starion justice.

What happened to Honda, man? No doubt safety regulation had something to do with it.

S13.

Given how it looks, I think Nakazato should've had a Starion instead of a JEE TEE ARU. That way he wouldn't just be a completely incompetent driver, he would just simply expect too much of his car because it looked fast. Considering how heavy it is, it'd also make more sense for him to utilize grippu despite it being RWD, and him spinning out all the time would make a hell of a lot more sense.

S110

>S110
I do agree.

This right here.
The starion is mean, especially the wide body.
But the Z31 has the most iconic headlights I have ever seen, the facelift in 87 was imo the perfect car aesthetics wise. I ended up getting a 87 Non turbo, no regrets at all.
Powerwise the Z31 is quick, with some supportive mods and a boost controller you can get to about 300 hp without breaking the bank. You need a bigger turbo, bigger injectors, and a ecu to go past that but its possible without even cracking the motor open, the VG is stupid tough, a lot of 400-500 hp builds exist. past that takes work tho but internals are rumored to take what ever beating you ask of them, your trans and axles will beg for forgiveness tho, turbo spec/ z32 stuff will help. Current Z31 SOHC VG with stock internals record is 700 hp.

Oh but suspension is garbage on these, every other manufacturer was making multi link suspension and nissan held on to 70s era tech until 1989...

What's the top middle?

either a britshit Escort, or a Sierra

That would be a 4th gen Escort.

>teleports in front of you

Forgetting about me, kiddo?

fuck the 80s
shit music
shit fashion
shit drugs
shit cars
like 1 or 2 decent movies

objectively the worst decade in human history

tru

>Oh but suspension is garbage on these

Oh, so the Z31 can't be a touge monster...

I want to stuff a 1JZ-GTE VVTi bored .040 over in one of these

ofcourse it can. look at the tofu meme machine.
you'll need to learn how to drive. and learn to make shit work to shoehorn upgrade parts onto the car. or slap on schassis front suspension and a rear subframe (that subframe is a lot of work)
it'll need suspension upgrades to do good. unlike some other cars which aren't bad stock

also singlecam vg is gay, rb, jz or ka swap it

Wide body Starions are actually pretty great. The fact that the fenders are accentuated to begin with makes the wide body feel more natural like an extension of the original thought.

My Toyota fanboy spirit still thinks Celica XXs and MR2s are better but you really can't go wrong with 80s Japanese styling.
They are all pretty awesome

stay mad

God machine coming through

Mk3 Supra best Japanese 80's sports car

>you will never own an æ r o d e c k
What is the purpose of life?

I forgot about the PreDSM desu

yeah pifgat unreliable cruisers make for good sports cars

You can always convert Z31 suspension to S13 Silvia coilovers. It's a pretty common conversion on 280ZX's, and iirc the 309ZX had similar architecture

Japanese cars have always been awful. The only thing they got right was SUV's

I've seen an 85 supra and an 87 celica gts in my local Craigslist. Are 80s Toyota's reliable enough for daily driving?

At this point anything that old should be considered not reliable regardless of manufacturer. It depends more on how its prior owners took care of it than who made it. I wouldn't daily anything older than about 15 years without going through pretty much everything and making sure everything either good or replaced by my own two hands.

>brakes (calipers, hoses, rotors, pads, master)
>suspension/steering (tie rods, ball joints, wheel bearings, bushings, cv axles, power steering)
>cooling system
>engine management (O2, crank/cam position, coolant temp sensor, knock sensor)
>4 new tires
>dump all fluids, replace with fresh high quality fluids
>clutch
>any rubber under the hood that looks like shit

That's all I could think of off the top of my head. I've already been burned twice by the previous owner of my car cheaping out. Cheap aftermarket clutch master cylinder blew out, and I had to replace their cheap Bando timing belt 20k later because it already looked like shit and I wasn't gonna risk it on an interference engine.
