Do you live in Portugal? because I do. It's been in the 90s and 100s (30s/40s) lately, its still July.

it hit 35°c here quite often which wasn't easy but manageable if you're fit, drink water like a madman and have the blower aimed towards your face on maximum. also all windows down and hope you don't get stuck in traffic.

driving at 35° is really ok but getting stuck in a jam is hell, I give you that and 40 is whole other animal of course too.

maybe you can help me. this thing gets hot. you can see the heat coming off the hood. and every now and then i can smell burnt rubber through the vent.

does anything squeal in there? any rubbing noises?

also, in what condition is the cooler? all fluids checked?
have you also checked the oil cap? if there's some caramel or white shit it could mean your head gasket is fucked which could also cause overheating.

yes and no, they were topped up, but not switched after purchase, its not MY car

nah looks norma, almost like choco syrup but oil color

In my Escort there was a valve fucked that is closed when the engine is cold and opens to the wider cooling circuit when the engine gets warm.
It stayed closed and the engine overheated like fuck.

There are lots of things that could be wrong but I'm not a pro.
You could also check if there's something blocking the grill intake slits and the outflow grill, those three slits on the hood where the hot engine air is supposed to exit. All that stuff should be clean as possible

Well, normally it should warn you if shit gets too hot but I don't know where that sensor is placed in a Twingo.

Lets assume that valve is defective like in my Escort. In my car the water temperature went up to fucking max which in your Twingo SHOULD be indicated with that little warning light.
The problem is, if the sensor is in the cooling circuit that doesn't get the hot water because of the valve, the car is fucked but that would be idiotic so I assume the sensor would be before the valve.
Anyways, look around a bit under the hood and online, maybe you find the solution. Again, sorry that I can't help much but I still lack hands-on experience myself and I'm still learning

Real question, I always wondered this. Would the Twingo be a good car to 'GT-R' if Renault wanted to? Let's say they threw in the 1.8L, 150HP Clio engine, turbo'd it, and made a custom AWD system to compete in Group A racing alongside the JEE TEE ARU. Would the Twingo have made it?

it was 15C that night, my dad told me its because I'm using too low of a gear(where im a new driver hes just assuming im doing shit to it).

I parked it to pick him up the engine had heat waves coming out of it no smoke, no smell of burnt rubber.

On the way back he drives, engine is no longer warm, BUT 10 mins later does smell of burnt rubber inside the cabin. Engine is not hot when we park.

no light ever came on except for the electric one (next to engine light on your pic), the exhaust fan does work because it has came on once before when I was driving it.

I would have replaced all the fluids in it, but like i said it aint my car, and right now i dont have any tools or money to do it with.

I mean, it would be fun as heck but the car certainly reached its safety limits with the 75hp engine.
You see plebs wrapped around trees in their MK1 Twingos FUCKING EVERYWHERE.
They usually have really thin wheels on, people who drive first gen Twingos are also often poor and run bald rubber and those shits can get tailhappy really quickly.

If they put more than 75hp in these, they would have gotten in SERIOUS trouble because soccermoms would brand Twingos as deadly rockets. There's no other car class in which cars have to be idiot proof as the class the Twingo is in and believe it or not, 75hp were already pushing it with the way the Twingo was set up.

so twingos are real cheap here, specially the first gen. if i get one what should I look out for?

look out for what? options or problems?
try to get one of the last facelift (2000 onwards) with the huge ass sunroof and maybe even the 16v 75hp engine.
look out for rust and overall condition. they're cheap as fuck to maintain but there are still many so why would you want to buy a fucked one and invest money (even if cheap, costs can culminate).
also, don't get the "easy" model. it's the one with the autotragic transmission and it sucks. you have to get the manuel

my parents got the one you mentioned 16v 75hp, I was considering the pre 2000s models, since theyre under 500 euros, it would make a nice shitbox, only thing I hate about the twingo is the shifter and the steering wheel.

not unless you change the gearbox.
haven't tried changing a twingo gearbox but I suppose a Fiesta's gearbox should fit...

rust on the early ones. it starts behind the rear wheel liner when wet dirt accumulates. also in the corners of the front wings. on the later D7F and D4F engines just make sure to do the timing belt on time (even if the old one hasn't done many KMs) as they're known to break. other than that they're bulletproof

that calibra is butt ugly but at least it's really fast. (at least in a straight line) it's got permanent AWD mods and a turbo upgrade kit
