never played a Dark souls game before and having a hard time deciding if I might like dark souls 3. reviews are just meme-tier jokes about how "ttly hard XXDD" the game is and not about the actual content.
is it a good rpg?
I'd consider playing through DS1 first.
DS1 good but it has it's ups and downs. The first game becomes a fair bit worse after you get the lordvessel, and areas like lost izalith feel downright unfinished, bosses and all. The PvP is fun but unintuative, and while it has depth it has pretty much no width since higher level play is just tapping with a light swing and rolling away plus having a good understanding backstabs and counterbackstabs and counter counter backstabs and so on.
DS3 is a little more ironed out but seems to have "missed the point" of the prior games to a degree. Lots of bosses basically ignore your positioning completely, so you can't space their attacks at all and instead just do nothing but time rolls for 10 minutes against their flurries of anime slashes until they throw you a bone and use their one stupid "just fuck my shit up" move.
