I'd say, depending on how you use your xp buffs, it's 2x to 5x quicker.
On release, I got to 35 in 2 or 3 days of combat questing (Maybe 12 hours worth). Last week I went from 35 to 42 in 2 hours, including a lot of travel and without the daily buffs, and 42 to 50 in the same amount of time, again with plenty of travelling.

Tamer was the fist class i tried out as well, didn't make it to awakening tho.
The pet kinda disappointed me but overall she was easy for grinding and has good stun-chains.
