I have no idea how the fuck to survive in CDDA, I've tried following guides and such but almost always get overrun trying to scavenge any kind of supplies before I get to the boring end game

the AI is absolutely fucking retarded and hordes will stumble over themselves trying to chase you, letting you punch them 1v1 if you take a few steps between each swing

Yes. Shady Zombies cannot see in the daytime, they have a vision radius of like five squares or something dumb like that.
At night they have the full zombie vision radius.

Either way, it's not very useful. As hilariously stupid as a crossbow on your crossbow is, you should go either for a flamethrower or a grenade launcher.

Nope! Mounted crossbows are rail mounted crossbows. So I could have both a crossbow on my crossbow AND a flamethrower.
Haven't found the grenade launcher attachment, just a standalone single shot 40mm.

new items don't spawn just because you spam turns on levels...
Actually monsters can spawn with equipment.
I mean of course it would never generate an aux armor piece since those are never generated on mobs, but a shield would be good.
In any other case it would also create an actually good armor and weapon in case of hell knights/etc, but you can win crawl with any combo without even bothering with that
Also I'm pretty there's always a chance for mobs can spawn with rings so OODs could do that
Or you know, abyss scumming. Now that you can kill trash mobs to spawn an exit, abyss scumming as a mumo is theoretically possible, if horribly degenerate.

A staff of cold can wreck basically everything that casts hellfire (except hell/pan lords) with only 12 skill.
if you have 27 Ice and Evo it'll do 1d50 Ice damage with every hit.

What if you swing the dark maul at 1999998 for 2.5 auts
Player turns != game's arbitrary time system.
Any single action you take is considered one player turn, so swinging the maul would just be one player turn.
Resting is just pressing "s" or "." for however many turns in a row; taking off armour is just doing the action for 5 turns in a row and then finally being successful at it, and same goes for putting on armour; and so on.
So, no real way to hit the limit.

All he has to do is craft a spear or two and kite things to bushes and window panes. Avoid shockers, brutes and hulks on sight, and he can even explore during the day. It isn't hard to scrounge up a living in cata.
