Considering you're posting on car forum, you're not a representation of the average. And either way, just because requirements are more stringent doesn't mean incompetent people can't get licenses.
In the same way, nearly all my friends and their parents drive manual over here, but the vast majority of people don't. Europe has a different attitude towards road travel than the US.
