They could have very easily continued making the original Defender as well as rolling out the new Playskool model. Move the manufacturing of D1 to Mexico, cut production by 30-50%, jack up prices so it's a good margin under Merc G-Class, then get to raping and belittling LR Prestige with the new models

I actually wouldn't mind one of the new Defenders if money was no object... I would beat the absolute shit out of it in the name of hate and if it continued to perform maybe it'd work it's way into my heart

They could have, but didn't. There's a reason why the G, (current)Defender, and the Wrangler are so revered now. LR is officially the uppity, rich teen/soccermom brand.
