>Viper owners crowdfunded 180,000$ to get the new ACR a record attempt, all for the sake of an internet argument

lol so whats the result?

No final results yet. Probably still making aero/suspension adjustments and running practice/spotting laps.

The problem on the nurburgring with the ACR is that the long straight is 1.3 miles. The viper ACR has a 177mph top speed bc of all the downforce. The GTR has a top speed of 195. So unless the Viper can make up huge amounts of time in the bends, it's going to lose it on the back straight.

Did anyone tell them this track has corners? Or maybe they will only do a drag race on the Döttinger Höhe

Based snek going for one last ride before its time is over

Go snek, go!

if it does break records, it might convince FCA to make a new one

or not because it would be a huge waste of money

Why would they make another Viper and put money into a passion project when they could just sell mediocre crossovers like every other brand?

Because people are stupid and don't always do the reasonable thing.

Fucking Christ why?
>yeah it's fast
>I only drive it to car shows and never rev it out but some dude other than me set a fast time at a track I'll never visit

You're confusing Corvette owners with Viper owners. You can't buy an automatic Viper, so plebs literally cannot drive it.

The wings on the ACR are adjustable, and the lower top speed is just a meme - take the wings off, and an ACR will do the same top speed as a regular Viper. They'll just have to compromise between corners and the straights.

Besides, neither of those two will reach their top speed on that straight, so it's a moot point.

Halo cars actually have a function though. The Ford GT for example isn't going to be a big profitmaker, but the marketing campaign behind it is. Same goes for the Hellcats/Demon, those things are probably convincing a lot of people to get into a Charger/Challenger instead of a Camaro/Mustang, even if it's just a base Hemi, or a 6.4.

Because halo cars promote image. Look what happened to Mitsubishi.

Lap times are just bragging rights and don't sell cars. People who have over 100k to spend on a car don't drive manual. People who have that money to spend care about badging, exclusivity, and refinement. They want to tell people they drive a Ferrari, not a Dodge.

>Lap times are just bragging rights and don't sell cars.
You're right, image sells cars. Marketing sells cars. A halo car like the Viper, Ford GT, or Hellcat serves both purposes.

>People who have over 100k to spend on a car don't drive manual.
Vipers didn't start at 100K though, just shy of that. They had a pretty nice niche of being a musced brute that required manhandling. Viper owners love to perpetuate the stereotype, when in reality it's been tamed down a lot, to the point where those 335 tires are practically impossible to let loose unless you turn all the driver aids off, dump the clutch and ram the skinny pedal.

>People who have that money to spend care about badging, exclusivity, and refinement. They want to tell people they drive a Ferrari, not a Dodge.
Ferraris are still several hundred grand away at a Viper's pricepoint, and a 911 just doesn't have the same image. Sure, it's just a Dodge, but it's their halo model with a specifically tailored image associated with it. Refined it is not, but it's not suposed to be a first car - and to be honest the latest generation has become qutie comfy for extended rides. A Viper is actually more exclusive than most entry-level Ferrari's in places like Monaco. There, you have to get a standout car, otherwise nobody will notice you sempai.

The GTR reaches it's top speed at several portion on the track, besides it doesn't matter if the viper doesn't reach it's top speed, even at highway speeds it produces drag

The Viper can hit 2g of cornering force, and 645BHP at 1500kg is a great power-to-weight. It'll carry lots of momentum through corners and reach its top speed rapidly, even if that top speed is "only" 177mph.

The old ACR-X was extremely similar and made a 7:03 time. I have no doubts this will go under 7.

Hyped for alphy to spam the canceled pic after the lap.

Yup they delet evo that what
