Wizards of the Cost don't actually care about anything but money and this is a realization most mtg players have by now. Their cards actually hold value unlike other tcgs right now so that's what keeps people around.

Ambush cucks a lot of meta control cards, he's pseudo-ramp that lets you actually do real damage with cyclone blade in a real match, his re-cloaking solves a major issue of ambush which was needing shadowed assassin to chip damage because reaching 20 atk is impractical in pre-arriet/lecia-assassin days, and by being a sticky follower you don't get as much clunk when your officer-commander deck doesn't link up like you would otherwise. The first and any wiped board first ironwrought fortress heavy knight is basically wasted and arthur's light is too slow without there being a larger board

Other deck had hand disruption and put dudes on the board early enough to stop it if they drew well.
There's also the matter that the deck is pretty transparent in how it plays so you can build around it and disrupt it with some success.

Some decks could put up a fight and win.
For example pic related became one of the most important cards in the format because

>Saheeli minus herself to clone a cat
>Cat comes and tries to reset Saheeli
>Ballista her ass with instant speed direct damage

Basically the format was
>Saheeli cat 60% of the format
>Mardu, like 20%
>Other decks less than 10% all of them in total

The MAIN ISSUE was that Saheeli Cat was a midrange deck with amazing late and midgame too.
If your deck didn't had direct damage interaction from turn 3 onwards you would lose to their combo.
If your deck also didn't created a solid field while holding back removal all the time to kill the cat, you were going to lose eventually.
And in top of that your deck needed to be fast enough to not lose to their amazing end game tools.
If your deck didn't do all of that then your deck was unplayable period.

About the Pro issue, they basically are hired once they are out of their tournament business because Wizards doesn't want their testes to interact weekly with hundreds of players per event asking them "what comes in the new packs?"
Also integrity and transparency policies.

I just took out my unleashers and run a classic 2378 list with ledgers in it, it's been working better for me. Pmdrawing a 4pp1/1 just fucks with your hand so much, and not getting a mordecai from your nep is even worse. It just means I need to pass on Urds, which is not that big of a deal.
