It does matter. Increases the multiplier, it's just that the weapon matters more than skill level, but higher multiplier means that you get more out of the weapon.

Pyro's selling point now is enchant fire and it needs 15 points to be good. You can then take enchanter for enchant lightning, thaum for swells and give your party like a 30% damage boost or something which if you multiply by 4 would be more than a single pure damage build would do.
